I don't think Alshon will get cut - They will seek a trade, and if one doesn't pan out he could be on IR when he gets a hangnail. JJAW needs to show up and be the outside possession/red zone/move the chains guy. I would like to see Ward make the roster. He's a good backup WR as he can play different spots. Goodwin is a veteran camp tryout. Watkins and Hightower could be PS stashes. It looks like the Eagles got fast all of a sudden at WR when they were such a relatively slow offense last season. They have a built in excuse for Jeffrey, Lis Franc surgeries can take quite a while to heal. Nobody's gonna trade for him until he's healthy. It seems like this could be an PUP/IR season for him if it suits the Eagles purposes.
May 13, 20205 yr The locks are Jackson and Reagor. Jeffrey on IR. The rest, get em all in camp and preseason to compete. If JJAW as a 2nd round pick with 1 year experience in the system can't beat out 5th and 6th round rookies then he deserves to be cut.

I see it working out this way: Alshon-IR or traded or cut Locks- DJax Reagor JJaw Competition for 3 spots- Hightower, Watkins, Ward, Goodwin (1 gets cut/sent to PS) I think watkins goes to PS or one of the WR"s has a fluke injury to go on IR. Whoever offers more on special teams n as KR PR between watkins n hightower probably makes active roster. We may also start jeffrey on IR if he's not fully healed n in game shape which is possible with no training camp.

Mix in the other options in the slot and I think we're good there. It's amazing to me how people just dismiss Ward. He was given a chance down the stretch last year and showed he could play. He has some speed, can get separation and get open and catches the ball.

Not really anything more than that but with better weapons around i think he can have even more of an impact.

That the injury will heal sooner, so they'd try to get Alshon on the field, to give teams a show so they can deal him away. The more I think about it, perhaps he starts out on PUP and stays there. Lisfranc injury can be a pain (no pun intended).

Plus he is a crafty player when he finds open space.

With Desean always missing some time, with JJAW being a non factor last year and Reagor being a rookie I'd personally just like to see us load up at the position. In reality? That's not going to happen, they'll go with 6 I'm sure and they'll have a battle. I'd guess DeSean, Reagor and JJAW are locks. Alshon is a bit of an X factor. Given what we did in the draft I'd like to think he'll sit on IR or just not be here. If he is then there's really only a battle between 4 players for 2 spots. We aren't likely to contend for the SB this year so I'd much rather they stick with the younger guys and give them every chance. Though I do what what Goodwin can potentially do and so I'm hopeful he makes the roster over Alshon. Seriously? Last season we could've easily won the East by two games or more if not for injuries. We handily beat the team that made it to the NFCCG during the season. I think if we are healthy we have to be among the top 3-4 favorites to go all the way. What could stop that is COVID, not the roster talent which is arguably better this year.

May 14, 20205 yr Has Goodwin's contract been restructured yet? I saw rumors from Mike Kaye, but nothing confirmed by major sports sources. Without restructuring his contract down from $4million, I could see Goodwin getting cut.

But even a restructure probably makes a cut more likely because we won't take such a hit. It all comes down to his health really.

I'm still dubious on the contract restructuring. All the articles I read goes back to Mike Kaye as the only source. The reported restructure would be good for both sides. Less money for the Eagles and guaranteed money for Goodwin. Just haven't seen it confirmed by anyone else yet. So if it hasn't been done, then for sure cutting him and saving $4 mil is an easy call.

I really like all the speed we added, but we have so many options now and only 5-6 spots? If the politics of draft position doesn't play a role in decisions, of the rookie WR class I believe the most promising out of them all is Manasseh Bailey, and yes, that includes Reagor!! He's a 6'1'', 195lbs, 4.39 40, ??'' vertical, HBCU converted LB. He's very athletic with good hands and a strong runner that reminds me of TO.

I watched the Army-Morgan State game to see what the team had in Elijah Riley, and I liked what i saw in Bailey so much that I watched the rest of Morgan State's games just to see how he looked, and I was really impressed. The one thing he does really well is adjust to the ball on deep throws. He didn't have great stats in college, but he did draw at least six pass interference penalties that I counted, including three in one game against FAMU. Most of the time opposing defenders just had to grab him as he blew by them. He did have a few drops, but also made some really good catches, so I don't think his hands are an issue. He wasn't asked to run a lot of different routes, and he did show some sloppy tendencies on some of his routes, but I think he can clean that up. I think he has a legit shot at the roster. He's a former linebacker, so he has a lot of special teams value. He blocked two punts last year, and is also a violent blocker in the run game. You could see corners start to get sick of being blocked by him, and most of them just gave up trying to make plays in the run game after a few series. On a sidenote, the only guy who was able to cover him on a deep route was Riley (though he gave up a few completions to him on shorter routes). So Riley has some speed as well. I think both of these guys have a shot at the roster.
July 16, 20205 yr In regards to Ward, I made the comparison in another thread that I think he can be similar to Jason Avant in the slot. Neither are/were game breakers, but have shown they can reliably find some separation on short to mid routes and CATCH the ball. Avant was a little bigger, Ward is a little faster, but I think Ward can serve a role very similar to what Avant did. Just a reliable pass catcher that will be a good safety valve and can move the chains.

July 16, 20205 yr One similar situation in recent memory is Dorial Green-Beckham. 2nd round pick for the Titans in 2015, they gave up on him after at year and traded to the Eagles (for T Dennis Kelly). He was cut by the Eagles the following offseason.
