yeah but DGB was full of question marks before they drafted him. By all accounts JJAW is a great kid and a hard worker (he just kinds sucks so far)

Sure.  I was just trying to think of a 2nd round pick cut after one season, only thing I could remember was Titans trading DGB.

In regards to Ward, I made the comparison in another thread that I think he can be similar to Jason Avant in the slot. Neither are/were game breakers, but have shown they can reliably find some separation on short to mid routes and CATCH the ball. Avant was a little bigger, Ward is a little faster, but I think Ward can serve a role very similar to what Avant did. Just a reliable pass catcher that will be a good safety valve and can move the chains.

Is Ward good at contested catches?  Avant was good at that and could come down with the ball when defenders hanging over him.  Frankly, Ward is not a lock to make the roster, though he deserves some extra considerations for sticking around and performed when called on.

Avant was under appreciated by some while he was here, then more appreciated once we had crap at receiver in certain years.

Avant was consistent. Would have liked a receiver like that last year.

Could Ward be a slightly less talented Avant then? I think he could. He isn't the biggest or quickest but he runs really good routes, seems to know how to get open and what his QB needs and comes up with plays.

Sure potentially.  What he showed me was that he was prepared and took full advantage of his opportunity.  He played hard, gave high effort, and stood out because with all the injuries and in a desperate situation at WR he stepped up and made some plays.  I'm not saying he was an instant star or that anything is guaranteed for him going forward.  But last year with injuries to our top 3 WRs, we saw Hollins do nothing and get cut, Matthews get re-signed then cut, JJAW a 2nd round pick do practically nothing.  Then Ward was like a breath of fresh air by comparison.

One of the things that helped him was being on the practice squad with Josh McCown.  Toward the end of the season when people were thinking McCown would make a good coach, there were articles discussing how he helped prepare practice squad players which helped them step in so well.  Ward's been in the system for a couple years on the PS and then his end of season regular game experience, so the opportunity is there for him.  He's another player who would have really benefited from a full normal offseason but the rookies won't have that either so it will be really interesting to see how this all shakes out.

Here's how I see it shaking out based on our luck at this position:

-Marquise out as previously noted.

-Alshon on PUP and will be at the beginning of the year as well, therefore missing the first 6 weeks.  Maybe he'll opt out too.  Who knows?

-Desean will tweak either a hamstring or an ankle in TC, and he'll be week to week no matter how long the season lasts.

-Jalen Reagor will be overwhelmed learning the X and the Z position over zoom meetings, and he will only see the field on bubble screens and jet sweeps.

-Between Hightower and Watkins........1 of them will end up on the practice squad, and that player will be stolen by another team for their main roster.  The other player will get COVID-19 after this transaction happens and will be put on IR.

-Despite his reputable education at Stanford, JJAW still can't comprehend or learn the intricacies of an NFL playbook for a WR.  He sits on the sidelines with special permission for his mother to have sideline passes in order to shade him from the sun.

-Robert Davis and Deontay Burnett are the X and the Z to start the season with Ertz and Goedert in a 12 personnel.  Greg Ward plays the slot unathletically but with some trust from Wentz.

Reagor reportedly is learning only the Z at this point.

That is factually incorrect since whenever you make a post here you are ''talking to'' whomever reads your content. Better attempt there though.

Avant’s numbers steadily increased for 6 straight seasons, and he was great on third down. Don’t know why anybody would have a problem with him.

Well we have a punk a** Covid outer, an anti-semite, a perennial injured overpaid bum, and some rookies.

First I heard/saw this ... thanks for sharing.

So unless they sign another receiver, looks like Hightower and Watkins are both making it unless they only go 5 WR (doubtful, since I don’t see enough RB talent to go heavy there), with Alshon on PUP and Goodwin opt out.

Jackson, Reagor, JJAW, Ward, Watkins, Hightower

We’re already living in a clown world, might as well sign Antonio Brown to complete the circus.

Avant was always my favorite during his time here. Desean was better, but i always loved Avant.

This is why people shouldn't get so hung up on what the coaches say.  Things change.  Wentz was going to sit and learn as  a rookie then he became the starter.  You see how guys actually play and they might be ready to learn other positions, or injuries happen or whatever.  Coaches could also prevent it by not committing to things but whatever.  With Chip I at least liked when he would not deal with hypotheticals and say we'll see what happens when we get these guys in camp and start working with them.

May not have him here as a WR but he is back to help coach the group.
