Posted September 21, 20214 yr After placing both Brandon Brooks and Brandon Graham on IR, the filled one spot by poaching an OG off of Buffalo’s practice squad. Anderson was a 7th rd pick made by Buffalo this past April. https://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/news/roster-moves-eagles-agree-to-sign-jack-anderson-off-the-bills-practice-squad
September 21, 20214 yr If we sign a player off another teams practice squad does that mean we have to give that team a pick? Anderson (6-4, 314) was a highly-touted prospect coming out of college and ended up starting 38 games over four seasons with the Red Raiders. After a shoulder injury ended his 2019 season after just three games, Anderson returned in 2020 to start 10 games and earning a first team All-Big 12 nod. All of his 38 starts in college came at the right guard position, which is noteworthy because the Eagles usually prefer their backup offensive linemen to offer more position versatility.

I am pretty sure they are there for the taking and no compensation is required. And go directly on the roster. There are some rules involved. Like you can't sign them within a certain time frame if you're playing that opponent next. And you can't sign them off one practice squad to your own practice squad.

Unless something's changed, practice squad players are basically just free agents. They're just free agents who are employed by a team and practice but of course, can't play without being elevated to the roster.

September 22, 20214 yr Nothing particularly interesting in his resume. After the 2020 season he was considered by some as a 2nd day pick if he came out. Right Guard. Was good coming out of high school, 4 star.
September 22, 20214 yr Let's see what Stoutland can do with him. I mean he's a OG so being picked in the 7th doesn't necessarily mean a lot. He could just prove to be decent depth and that's absolutely fine.

Not to rain on the parade here, but how highly-touted was he as a prospect if he lasted until the 7th round in one of the shallowest drafts in recent history? They said that the normal 'draftable' talent disappeared somewhere around Round 4 or 5. I'm glad they are kicking the tires on some new blood to come in and Stoutland can likely do something with this guy, but I'm not overly excited with a 7th round pick from this draft being described as 'highly-touted'. That's a bit exaggerated.
September 22, 20214 yr Anderson gives Stoutland a lot to work with.....has the body and athleticism do develop into a serviceable and dependable guard. He apparently had a good camp and preseason with the Bills and was protected in the first 2 weeks.....good move by the birds.

If the FO has taken in his inputs on signing Anderson, he could develop into another Mailata, which would be very good.

Mailata is a freak athlete, huge and fast, extremely versatile with the rugby background, but is learning football. A potential superweapon. Anderson is a generic right guard. Not particularly large or fast or strong. Played offensive line in high school, played right guard in college. Resume doesn't seem to indicate anything but oline and specifically right guard in college. Not some potential superweapon. But he might do a solid job at right guard.

The Eagles being in desperate need of RG depth actually end up working out in this situation. Whenever you’re relying on Landon Dickerson an injury is a definite concern.
