The Eagles received some good news leading up to their "Monday Night Football" showdown with the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3. On Saturday, Philadelphia activated tight end Zach Ertz from the reserve/COVID-19 list, meaning the veteran is eligible to play against Dallas. He was back on the field practicing with the club Saturday as it wraps up the week of preparation before Monday's head-to-head.

The 30-year-old tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week, but he was able to return so quickly because he is vaccinated, remained asymptomatic and logged two negative COVID-19 tests at least 24 hours apart.

When asked about the uncertainty of Ertz's game status on Thursday, coach Nick Sirianni explained that the Eagles were essentially installing two game plans -- one with Ertz in the fold and one without him.

"You have to have double-plans out there. And so, without getting too much into that, it's just everything has to be double-planned," Sirianni said, via the official team website. "You have to back it up of what you want to have in. Do you want to be in 12-personnel, do you want to be in 11-personnel? And so you just have to back up everything. ...This is just something that we've had to do and the nature of the business in the NFL."

Of course, this is a strong development for Philadelphia, particularly with Dallas next up on the schedule. In his 15-career regular season games against the Cowboys, he has 66 receptions for 641 yards and four touchdowns. This season, Ertz has three catches for 40 yards.

Ertz will now rejoin an Eagles tight end unit that consists of Dallas Goedert and rookie Jack Stoll on the active 53-man roster.
