By TZVI JOFFRE SEPTEMBER 29, 2021 20:43 During a discussion with students about National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, US Vice President Kamala Harris did not challenge a comment by a student at George Mason University in Virginia who accused Israel of "ethnic genocide” and defended her right to say it. The student, who identified herself as part-Yemeni, part-Iranian and "not an American,” also expressed outrage at US funding of the Iron Dome. She said America affects her life "every day” due to military funding it gives to Saudi Arabia and Israel. "You brought up how the power of the people and demonstrations and organizing is very valuable in America,” she said. "But I see that over the summer there have been protests and demonstrations in astronomical numbers standing with Palestine. But then just a few days ago, there were funds allocated to continue backing Israel, which hurts my heart because it’s ethnic genocide and displacement of people, the same that happened in America, and I’m sure you’re aware of this.” The student questioned why money was going to Israel and Saudi Arabia instead of to social issues in America. "The people have spoken very often of what they do need, and I feel like there’s a lack of listening, and I just feel like I need to bring this up because it affects my life and people I really care about’s [sic] life,” she said. In response, Harris said she was "glad” the student spoke up. "Your voice, your perspective, your experience, your truth cannot be suppressed, and it must be heard,” she said. Harris said democracy is strongest when everyone participates and is weakest when anyone is left out. "That’s not only about being physically present but that your voice is present,” she said. "Our goal should be unity, but not uniformity. Unity should never be at the expense of telling any one person, ‘For the sake of unity, oh you be quiet about that thing.’ That’s not unity. Then we see where that ends up in a healthy debate about the issue.” Regarding the student’s reference to Middle East policy, Harris said: "We still have healthy debates in our country about what is the right path, and nobody’s voice should be suppressed on that.” Former US ambassador to Israel David Friedman expressed outrage at Harris’s statements, tweeting: "Shameful. There is truth and there are lies. No one is entitled to their personal truth. This attack on Israel is simply a lie and VPOTUS should have called that out.”
September 29, 20214 yr Hey kid, mind your own business. The student, who identified herself as part-Yemeni, part-Iranian and "not an American,” also expressed outrage at US funding of the Iron Dome.

Kids and people are going to say what they say - whatever their respective nationalities and politics may be. But the VP is a face of this administration. It's her response that is troublesome.
September 30, 20214 yr It’s a shame what the U.S. government has let Israel do to the Palestinians for the past 70 years.

What about pre-1967 when there were no Palestinians and the Palestinian territories were occupied by Jordan and Egypt? How about how Hamas treats Palestinian people in Gaza - is that a shame too? How about the Palestinian refugee camps still operating in Jordan and Lebanon after over 70 years - is that a shame too? How do we let Jordan and Lebanon keep these people interred after so many years?

Israel takes more territory where Palestinians have been living for new settlements every year. Is there an endpoint?
September 30, 20214 yr To suggest that one side or the other hasn't wrongfully harmed the other side is nonsense. Both have done so, and that unfortunately is the nature of harmful conflict. Pick the side you like most if you feel that you must choose. The progressive left is against helping Israel.
September 30, 20214 yr There is a end of civilization book called "Lucifer's Hammer" - a good read. There's a great bit in the book where the Arabs & Israel go at it once the planet is well and truly screwed. Once ammo runs out, they keep it going with knives.

September 30, 20214 yr Well there is only one State and that is Israel. From 1948 to 1967 Jordan controlled the West Bank and Jerusalem. Jordan is the true homeland of the Palestinian people. Of Course Jordan was created, just like Israel, out of the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in WWI. So during that 19 years time the so called Palestinians never called for a Homeland of their own. They never demanded Jerusalem be made their Capital City. No, it wasn't until, Israel was attacked by Egypt, Syria, Jordan, and Iraq in 1967 and won the war and liberated the West Bank (Judea and Samaria) and Jerusalem, did the Palestinian people come into existence. The land belongs to the victors. As long they hold it it is theirs. The losers don't get to dictate terms. There is one State. If they want a State of their own they should accept a peace plan. They were offered several, 1948, 2000, 2008 and rejected them all. They had their chance. They rejected it and chose Jihad instead because they don't want their own state, they want all of Israel. As long as that is the goal there will never be peace.

September 30, 20214 yr The Israel lobby has even more power than the gun lobby in the United States. So if you’re a defender of Israel I don’t think you have much to worry about.
