JJAW...one ST play and little else.

Do we need more production from our WR5 or more from our WR1, WR2, WR3? Who do you suggest we take out to give JJAW more snaps?

JJ's block sprung a big play today ....looks like that's his specialty

Metcalf 4 catches 65 yards and a score. JJAW is what he is. A blocker and special team player, but he also had a costly penalty today. Just feels like a reoccurring thing with this team. They aren’t playing smart football.

Should teams be drafting WR5/ blocking specialist/ Special Teams players with 2nd round picks?

I'll say this. KC isn't winning a SB with that defense.

yep, totally agree

I know Watkins took a bump, but any reason why receivers not named Smith aren't getting any looks? I know we went for a more small ball style, but to not use anyone at all?

A penalty.

I think it’s because they suck.

We all know the answer to this. Ideally, no. This wasn't the role the Eagles envisioned for him when they did draft him. But there  have been specialists drafted higher than JJAW --- Ray Guy was the 23rd pick of the 1st round and Janikowski was the 17th pick. There were other punters and kickers drafted in the 1st 2 rounds of the draft.

JJAW's production as a WR has been a disappointment. But at this point, he did what he had to to make the team and is doing what the team is asking him to do. Fortunately, the WRs ahead of him have remained healthy to date this season. Should something happen and we need him to fill in for someone, hopefully he'll make the most of the chance. I just don't understand the point of pointing out his "lack of statistics" each week when it's clear he's the 5th WR on the depth chart. Miles Sanders was also a 2nd round pick the same year which is considered pretty high for a HB these days. He only had 2 carries a week ago and just 13 yards today. Does that mean he can't play or is there more to the story?

There is more to the story for sure, but let’s be clear that Miles has basically been the starting tailback since he was a rookie. JJAW has fallen down the depth chart since he was a rookie and is now basically holding on to a job by doing anything he can to survive and he’s being paid 2nd round pick money to do it. For the record my post wasn’t really meant to tear down JJAW. As I pointed out earlier to the same post the guy is what he is at this point, but that doesn’t take away from the real issue and that is the Eagles misjudged the pick and they have been missing way too many times over the recent years. Getting back to Sanders for a moment though. It is troubling to see the Eagles aren’t going to him rather they’re going to Gainwell in crucial situations so even with Sanders there is clearly some issues there.

Ready to see more of Watkins and less of Reagor.

That's Reid giving Philly the finger right there.

The finger for what?  Paying him millions to coach here for 14 years and get zero rings?

It's nearly impossible to win in this league when you give up 6 touchdowns on 7 possessions. Couple that with 3 of our own touchdowns being negated by penalty and you lose every time. Bottom line is that's the reason for the loss. Hurts has been the main topic of discussion every week here and he will have his ups and downs but he played great today. Ignoring the run game is another serious problem but that also wasn't the issue for this game. The offense moved the chains all day long. Lack of any respectable defense is the elephant in the room when talking about this loss and you're crazy if you can't see it.

I didn't know Jerry Rice played for New England.

He left about 12 points on the field having to settle for fgs missing WIDE TDs. Just like Wentz, Hurts deserves every bit of scrutiny. Hopefully Siri is just a gap filler for the next HC. His stupid and predictable play designs have penalties written all over it. He ain't ready yet either.

That would be sad to hire a HC to be a "gap filler".  Why not just hire a guy you actually want that's qualified?

You misunderstood my post. I suggest they cut JJAW.

Nope. 100% OPI.

How does that help the team? Do we promote Fulgham to sit behind Smith, Watkins, Reagor and Ward and just take a hit on ST for no apparent reason? JJAW played 11 out of 74 offensive snaps and 15 ST snaps.

In 4 games, Fletcher Cox has 5 tackles, no TFL, no sacks. While statistically, that's disappointing, I don't hear people calling for him to be cut. He still has an impact out there. Kerrigan has played 116 (41%) defensive snaps so far and has yet to even manage a tackle. Zech McPherson has only managed 2 defensive snaps so far --- cut him?

I'm all for getting better at every position, but this idea that we have to single someone out to cut without a valid reason and without a better option to replace him is just dumb.

It does the one thing the Eagles are always reluctant to do, set a new standard by raising the bar and making consequences real. A new coaching regime taking over is the perfect time for a team wide culture adjustment. It's not about the minutia of a particular position in a year that looks like it'll yield maybe 4 wins. It's about real improvement from the top down over the next 4 years or so until the roster is complete. That's my opinion on the subject but alas, Lurie doesn't share my opinion, so it is what it is...a patchwork instead of a complete team.

Again, you didn't explain how that improves the team. JJAW is more of a ST contributor as the WR5 and the coach likes his blocking on his offensive snaps. Who do we replace him with that will do that role better?

It improves the team by putting them on notice that subpar play won't be rewarded with a roster spot. In JJAW 's case he's a wide receiver who cannot receive. ST blockers are a dime a dozen. Grab a FA TE or LB'er who can play ST. If the replacement must be a WR, I'd rather they pull a guy like Seth Roberts off the scrap heap than to keep rewarding a guy whose greatest achievement is...nothing. As I said before, it's not about the minutia of a particular position this season it's about a culture change. No longer will a get-by be rewarded.

Mack Hollins redux but picked higher?

Well when you consider the original idea of Jalen Hurts was for him to be their Taysom Hill type player then we know why their picking blocker/special teams/WR 5 players in the second round. They think they’re the smartest people in the room, but actually they’re clueless.

I'm sure everyone at this point saw Seth Joyner's synopsis of the defensive play...in a nutshell for those that haven't...

-said that Gannon seems to be "playing scared" with the defensive scheme

-mentioned there were no playmakers at the LB position

- and again said the LB play was poor

Barrett Brooks echoed him on the LB play
- LBs are not covering well,

-LBs are not making significant plays - which he described as TFL behind the LOS - or tackles within 3 yards

-LBs , he said ARE making tackles...8, 9,10 yds down the field..which , of course is problematic...

in a nutshell both guys illustrated the same issues ...POOR LB play..and a lack of a bonafide playmaker at LB....

so WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE????

I agree with them on the linebackers and if you’re trying to play a multi-front defense then you  need linebackers capable of making plays and not a bunch of guys off the scrap heap. Davion Taylor was a bad pick it seems. The guy can’t get on the field, and the kid from Temple isn’t talented enough. Hopefully with one of these 1st for next season Howie finally addresses the linebacker problem. An impact safety wouldn’t hurt either. I do think Gannon’s scheme is also an issue because the linebackers aren’t attack the LOS. They’re basically playing flat footed on the run game. Reading and reacting. They aren’t attacking the LOS.

The Eagles gave up 471 yards of total offense in this game, but people are saying we are a quarterback from a Super Bowl??? On a side note the Eagles totaled 461 yards of total offense in which Jalen Hurts basically accounted for 434 of those yards, but yeah another quarterback will fix all those defensive issues.
