js, the articles you posted in this thread are months or years old. this shows how long this game has been played.

are they increasing pressure? yeah, for the moment. I don't know where 50 some airplanes flying into the Taiwan defense zone stacks up historically, but the flight paths were well outside of the island. there aren't a bunch of Chinese jets flying over Taiwan.

The are articles I posted are since July, 2021 to present. Not that long ago.

I believe these flights have ramped up this year. This time was reported as the most flights at one time.

Well, yeah -- if we ever repealed the 1979 Act, Taiwan is screwed. But that won't happen anytime soon.

@jsdarkstar

the West Wing episode is "Hartfield's Landing" from Season 3. It's fantastic. It's also the episode they re-did as a play in 2020 on HBO Max.

I do not disagree with you, sir.

no

You would think that by saying no, we are keeping ourselves out of the fray.  In reality, sooner or later the hostilities would come home to haunt us.  Stop this now, or be faced with a bigger problem in the future.  Some things cannot be avoided.

Oh Communist China has very ambitious plans.  They will not stop with Taiwan.

The real issue is whether or not the U.S. will honor the 1979 Act even if it is not repealed.

Care to elaborate on those plans?

we've been in the fray too many times in too many countries, all while our own country spirals into a sheethole. let the rest of the world police this one.

btw, china isn't going to invade Taiwan anyway.

How can the right be staunchly isolationist while simultaneously demanding action on foreign soil?

Isolationism is one thing when it comes to war torn countries in africa or the middle east. It's another entirely when it comes to a major industrial hub and trading partner. We wouldn't, and shouldn't, sit idly by while if a full scale invasion were to happen (which I agree, isn't plausible.)

Yeah, well, about that endless BS?

Won't be over any time soon.

I hear ya. It's always easy for us to sit back and talk about when we should invoke military action when it ain't our kids being sent half-way around the world to protect our economic interests.

So those articles are talking about expansion economically, not Militarily. I was asking more about what the plans are for military invasion besides Taiwan.

I think it would be a mistake to equate China with WWII style takeovers.  Germany and Japan invaded and occupied their neighbors.  Think more of Rome and ancient Judea.  The Romans were invited in, and then never left.

Acting like oceans will protect us and we would be unaffected is pure folly.

She’ll be sailing through the South China Sea (on the way home) and making it clear our navy has a right to do that,” Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson told The Australian.

I don’t think it gets any more gansta that that^^^

They want to be the world hegemon, like most nations. They're smart enough to realize that invading Taiwan is an incredibly risky move and broad based naked aggression on the world stage will end up with the whole world against them and a whole lot of nukes flying their way.

They're smarter than to make such brash decisions.

They'll look for a neo-colonial model. They're doing this in Africa already. They buy up ports, one belt/road project, etc. They're building up soft power. They're infiltrating universities and corporations to steal technology and play games with NGOs. The Cold War and MAD has made outright conflict between major nations nearly impossible. One thing China has going for them is patience. They're willing to wait, to work slowly, and let the west make mistakes.

The US needs a war. The plandemic isnt doing it for them.

All we need now is a serious enough transgression and a "breaking report" confirming that the kung flu was released from Wuhan.

Taiwan defence minister pushes new arms spending, says China tensions worst in four decades

TAIPEI (Reuters) - Military tensions with China are at their worst in more than 40 years, Taiwan's defence minister said on Wednesday, promoting a new arms spending package to lawmakers days after record numbers of Chinese aircraft flew into the island's air defence zone.

Tensions have hit a new high between Taipei and Beijing, which claims the democratic island as its own territory, and Chinese military aircraft have repeatedly flown through Taiwan's air defence identification zone, though no shots have been fired and the planes have stayed away from mainland Taiwan.

Over a four day period beginning last Friday, Taiwan reported close to 150 Chinese air force aircraft https://tmsnrt.rs/3ld6TyI entered its air defence zone, part of a pattern of what Taipei calls Beijing's continued harassment of the island. Just one incursion was reported on Tuesday.

Asked by a lawmaker on the current military tensions with China at the parliament, Defence Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng said the situation was "the most serious" in more than 40 years since he joined the military, adding there was a risk of a "misfire" across the sensitive Taiwan Strait.
