Nasty Pic of Alex Smith's Leg

I'm not going to post the pic here, but this article has a link to a pretty nasty pic of Alex Smith's leg.

I'm absolutely shocked that he is trying to come back.  Dude is lucky to still have both of his legs.  I've never been a big Alex Smith fan, but I'm pulling for him to be able to play again in the near future.

That is ridiculous to see just wow , I'm not a Skins fan at all but what Smith went thorugh he is lucky to have a leg and his life considering the Sepsis.

Wow!  That didn’t look pleasant.

I see "nasty" things on a weekly basis so don't need to see another. But I'm assuming a Tib/Fib compound fracture is what you all are looking at?

No worse then that. It's the infection plus the surgery

It was definitely nasty, but not as bad as I was expecting.

As I understand it, Smith's fracture was made worse b/c the Tib / Fib bones were not just snapped like a pretzel stick.

They were twisted in a circular fashion and snapped while rotating, which makes me wince just thinking about it.

The sepsis is a separate issue and makes a bad situation worse.

We had an infection situation after my eldest son had surgery to repair knee ligaments & cartilage. A few days

after the surgery the knee blew up to the size of a football and had to be drained of puss & blood with the insertion

of a 3 - 4 inch needle into the black & blue knee.     It was the worst thing I've ever been made to witness as parent

to an injured child.  YIKES.  To avoid sepsis they hooked him up to a mobile anti-bacterial IV which he had to drag around

with him for 2 weeks to fight off the infection.

Hopefully Smith can recover . . . but I won't be surprised if his NFL career is over. They'd have to rig some sort of brace to

support the 'knitted' bones at the site of injury. I'm thinking the risk of re-injury is too great.

It's only one pic? With the black stuff on his leg? That looks like it was a picture of a tv screen.

Skins were playing really well that season with Smith too. Then once he went down it was like an avalanche

That's a nasty injury. Alex Smith has made a ridiculous amount of money, since he was drafted before the NFL adopted the rookie wage scale they have now. He doesn't need to play anymore. Just call it a career, man!

That black stuff is dead tissue. It spreads. Septic shock and then you die. Qouted from the article:

"Throughout the night, it's test after test after test. Alex's fever is through the roof. His blood pressure is dropping".

That is septic shock.

Wouldn't mind Smith as a coach. He's a student of the game and I think would make a good qb coach. Dude should definitely hang them up.

Redskins have been using him a bit like a player / coach to Haskins.  Lots of good reports there.  He's apparently all buddy buddy with the Danny, too.

If there's worse than this, then I definitely don't want to see it.  Health care workers must have stomachs of steel to have to look at that kind of stuff all the time.

You get used to it or you go into radiology.

Guy is lucky to have a leg. He is worth millions and has a family. Time to call it quits and enjoy the money.
