A lot of it is obvious - but a lot of it is not.

Most school issued PCs have filtering software installed to prevent access to certain sites, but some go quite a lot more intrusive. IT people with access, can record from microphones and webcams (this is why a sliding door across the camera is essential for everybody).

 

I am a network engineer who works with IT security every day. What the people at the help desk can do, is astounding these days. Remotely wake up your computer and turn on the camera? Child's play.
