Been a rough year for you I'm sure, what with the Chauvin conviction, Trump losing, and now this. If you need help finding numbers for grief counseling services or support groups, I'm sure TEW can point you in the right direction. I think his post was intending to address the fact that this should have never gone public and if it hadn’t, there would be no hurt feelings. I agree this should have been kept in-house and gruden forced to resign at the end of the season IMO but this feels like a personal vendetta against gruden. whatever gruden is an idiot for putting those comments in email form to league account(s). Even if he wasn’t coaching at the time. he got caught up in an investigation that wasn’t even related to him. only thing left for him to do now is pack his bags and go to a nice tropical beach somewhere and enjoy retirement. maybe write a tell all book about the life of a nfl head coach behind the scenes. I’m sure he has a ton of juicy stories.

October 13, 20214 yr Everyone getting worked up about a double standard, please try and understand -- the double standard exists because of fans, not the teams. The teams do what is in their economic best interests. Gruden was fired because the negative press and fan reaction would have impacted the league and the Raiders. Warren Sapp remains in the Bucs Ring of Honor because no fans care enough to stop spending money on tickets because of it. We've accepted certain things and get outraged by others -- the NFL is a business that is simply reacting to its customer base. Need a more stark example...KOBE BRYANT. The guy is universally celebrated despite having been charged with rape and settling the case. The Lakers retired both his numbers and no one thinks they shouldn't. Fans have decided that some things are acceptable and forgivable, and some aren't. The teams and league are reacting to the impact on the bottom line.

Do you really think fans would have stopped going to games had they not fired Gruden? I don't - not for a second.

It is not about fans, it as about the almighty advertising dollar. Allegiant paid 25 million to have their name on the Raiders stadium. That is the impact that made the Raiders make this decision.

I think special interest groups would have put pressure on the league and the Raiders, possibly impacting TV ratings. That alone wasn't worth it for a coach who wasn't winning. Patrick Mahomes still has a job after this. Jon Gruden...not so much. 1 minute ago, downundermike said: It is not about fans, it as about the almighty advertising dollar. Some, maybe, but more importantly, I think he lost the locker room the instant that email came out where he talked about how big Smith's lips were. Good luck winning any games when the players think your coach is a closeted racist. It's not much different than the Clippers players on the brink of refusing to play for an owner that made those types of comments to his girlfriend in private.
