The wildcard for the Eagles that nobody is talking about is the return of Brandon Brooks.  If he manages to come back after the bye, the Eagles are absolutely a different team with him in the lineup.

Unless Brooks can play defense, I’m not sure how much difference it makes.

LOL --- sometimes, the fans think they are the players.

***Newsflash*** Fan overconfidence or lack thereof has no effect on the team's outcome. If I want to look past the Saints, it won't hurt the actual team (Eagles).

I guess you failed to read the rest of my comment. The fans are so fickle around here that it makes no sense to think about playoffs, but hey maybe your boy JJAW can catch 90 passes over the next few weeks and carry them to the playoffs right?

I don't think it has anything to do with fans thinking they have an effect on the team. I think it has more to do with setting fans expectations properly.

Football is a week to week game. This week people are on a high. Next week if they lose to the Saints people will be calling for everyone to be fired. I was actually encouraged from what I saw against the Chargers. People around here were just angry about it. Fans are fickle and change as the team wins or loses.

Exactly. It feels like fans have no patience or perspective whatsoever. I am always repeating myself, but this is a young team with young coaches. There was never going to be any consistency with this team until probably late in the year. They were figuring things out early and unfortunately the scheduling gods set them up with a brutal beginning of the season, which did not allow them to feast on lesser opponents for a few weeks while they figured things out.

Maybe if they were playing teams like the Giants, Broncos and Jets to begin the season, they might have figured out the running game a bit sooner, as they would not have felt that the only way to keep up with other teams was to throw the ball. Maybe the defense would have had more confidence in their scheme and would not have been so afraid of teams beating them over the top, that they would be more aggressive than passive now.

I was very encouraged from the Chargers game. I felt like it was bad luck at the end, but they hung in there and could have beat them. That is what you want from a team like this. You want them to fight and scratch and try to win every game.

Yeah, bye bye top 10 picks and hello 13, 16, and 19 or something. Going from top talent to freaking blown pick specials by Howie.

If Howie's making the pick - does it really matter?

I totally agree with you here. This is a team that is still in a learning/growing process and my point was about how the fans are reacting week to week with their lack of patience on watching this process. I don’t even understand how he thinks that I thought my thoughts had an effect on their play.

That's my concern, as well. Going into the year I figured we would win about 6/7 games. I still think ultimately that will be the outcome.

I mean I think this year was all about looking at any positives right? They've shown some real reasons to be upbeat I think but there are also some big flags.

As things stand Id give Hurts another year. He's only what 4 games (and yes a year on the sidelines) ahead of the rookies from 2021 and he looks ahead of all of them bar perhaps Jones?

But the big key for me is Hurts. I'm slightly higher on his chance than both of you I think (certainly Swoop), but I know, despite your concerns, you both want him to succeed and will say when he's played well.

I've very much gone back and forth on him to be honest. I want him to succeed I really do. He's a guy this team is clearly behind, seems like a really good leader and a really nice kid. So yeah I want him to succeed but I've been very much on a rollercoaster with him. Yesterday he was very very good no doubt, last week he was too and he was against Detroit. But he's also had his struggles in those games, the same struggles we are all concerned about. But he's also shown signs of real growth.

Let’s see what Hurts can do with an actual reliable weapon other than Smith, a better defense, and a continued balanced offense. Let’s see Howie use those picks to improve this roster. Let’s see what he can do surrounded by some actual talent.

That's likely the route they go.

I have said it a million times, I really have no desire to send all of the picks for an aging QB. I wouldn't put it past Howie.

If they're still not sold, draft a guy (not in the first) and have them compete.

The way I see it next year they will have draft capital and some salary cap relief. They were so tight against the cap they really couldn’t be aggressive with their free agent signings and that hurt the team. I don’t want to call this a throw away season, but this year was them hitting the reset button and rebuilding. In any case I think the smart move is to stick with the quarterbacks they have right now in Minshew and Hurts. Quietly Howie Roseman actually had a decent draft last year so maybe he’s turned the corner too.

The eagles are a young and wildly inconsistent team right now.

There are so many issues to continue to work out that it's really of no value to say they have an "easy" schedule.  Most of my doubt stems from Sirianni and his playcalling and his lack of ability to get all the skill players involved.

Hurts runs too much, the RBs are not involved in the passing game, they basically use 2 WRs and the situational play calling is questionable at best.

The eagles are making some progress which is a good sign...but the talent on offense is not being utilized to it's talents.....and the defense is on-again, off-again.

Progress is good.....consistency is harder and needed for playoff possibilities.

Making the playoffs should always be a goal........the value of playoffs pressure and experience can be beneficial for the young players.  It instills a stronger "winning" mentality.  And any team with 3 first round draft picks is in a great position to add critical talent at needed positions, regardless of the slotting.

I think most of this hinges on Sirianni and he is still struggling with getting the most out of the team.

Since the Eagles signed Brooks, compare the team record with him in the lineup and with him out of the lineup

As for the quarterbacks, for now, yes - stick with those two.  No reaching for QB's.  Grab one when you can obtain a real difference maker.

As for Howie's drafts, he's had his share of bonehead moves, but all other things being equal, having a high draft slot generally results in better drafts.

love that the NFL is taking the NBA/NHL approach that pretty much everyone makes the playoffs

When it comes to quarterbacks you never know one of the two might surprise. Hopefully Howie doesn’t blow these picks. He’s never had this much draft capital before ever so let’s see how he handles things.

Howie drafted Barnett, Dillard, and JR in the first. Dillard may pan out eventually but Howie is an idiot past pick 10.

I wouldn't say any of that at all.   I've seen bad players taken in the top 10 picks and, in my example,  good players taken at the bottom of the first.   Hurts was taken in the 2nd round.

I think that people are just too negative about Howie.

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!

The Eagles are in need of a major rebuild. There is NO chance of them doing anything in the playoffs this year, even if they somehow make it in. They need high draft picks, and upper-level management changes in order to build for the future. A wildcard spot or whatever will only delay the inevitable.

Oh please.  Nonsense.  They HAVE high draft picks and lot of 'em.  What kind of Eagles fan doesn't root for them to make the playoffs?

Until Gannon un-puckers his arse, they won't be winning anything with this D. There are some here and there smoke and mirrors moments that look good, but until he stops being afraid and unleashes a confident, aggressive D that plays closer to the line, they won't win too many more games. The offense has improved, but need to mix it up better. The Eagles offense is bi- polar (no offense to anyone dealing with that in real life)... it's either too pass heavy or too run heavy. Mix it up more and they would be unstoppable. Passes to the RB's, jet sweeps, misdirection plays, etc... all mixed together. Maybe they are headed that way now, though.

If the offense keeps growing and mixes it up, and Gannon un-puckers his arse, anything is possible. IF, I say.

BTW, if the Eagles beat the Saints on Sunday AND the Football Team beats the Panthers, I suspect the Football Team-Eagles game in Week 15 here will be a Saturday game (either 4:30 on Amazon Prime or 8:15 on NFL Network).

Fear not, I read the rest of your comment before I posted. I omitted it because you just described yourself last year complaining about Wentz and, of course, JJAW among others ...  while the team was struggling.

So I had legit concerns. I still fail to realize how you jump to the conclusion that I somehow think my comments or concerns will have an effect on the players. You’ve been behind JJAW 100% for years now and he hasn’t gotten any better. Bottom line no need to over analyze this thing. No need to expect the playoffs, because people swing like a pendulum week to week. I have no delusions that my posts suddenly make the Eagles play better or worse just as I’m as sure no matter how many videos you post of JJAW running around and catching nothing will suddenly make the Eagles throw him the football.
