Time to start treating China like the thug regime they are. Not only the government but corporations like Nike and celeb spokesmen like Lebron should put morals over profits.

Trump’s trade war with China was never about human rights though - it was about the trade deficit with China.  The thing is most Americans don’t care much about either issue.  We just want to keep buying cheap (Chinese-made) products from Wal-Mart.

You're not wrong, but keep in mind it's a whole lot easier for people to relate to an individual's experience than that of even millions of faceless victims.

If it can be a catalyst for understanding in human terms what China is willing to do to preserve its system and culture of control, one person's experience can be much more powerful than the suffering of millions.

Though I'd be lying if I thought it'd make much difference either way. Most Americans simply don't care if it's happening "over there" to other people.

Jack Ma disappeared for 3 months over the spring and no one seemed to care though.

Billionaires make poor sympathetic figures. But yeah, I don't think it makes as big a difference.

The head of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Steve Simon has said he is willing to lose hundreds of millions of dollars worth of business in China if Peng is not fully accounted for and her allegations are not properly investigated.

"We’re definitely willing to pull our business and deal with all the complications that come with it,” Simon said in an interview Thursday with CNN. "Because this is certainly, this is bigger than the business,” added Simon.

"Women need to be respected and not censored,” said Simon.
