Posted May 1, 20205 yr "Wentz came to the sideline after completing the first-quarter series in which he absorbed a brutal helmet-to-helmet hit from Jadeveon Clowney. He sat on the bench next to backup Josh McCown and looked at a computer tablet branded along its border with the NFL Playoffs logo". Wentz looked up. "Are we in the playoffs?” he asked McCown. This is taken from Fords last Eagles column yesterday after 32 years of being a terrific beat writer for the Inquirer. I guess since he's retiring he was the only Philly writer with the balls to tell the truth. That's why hurts was drafted. We're looking at Andrew Luck in Philly. Now we can debate if Hurts is the answer should Wentz retire early, which I believe he will, but that's why they drafted him. It's a shame to. He's 2020's version of Lindros.
May 1, 20205 yr Who's the source? What is the actual medical impact? How many good luck charms do you own in your house? this is downright superstitious. What is the incentive of the writer to feast on controversy and clicks?
May 1, 20205 yr Dude....we all know this already. It's not a surprise. 1 or 2 more significant injuries and it might be the end for Wentz.
May 1, 20205 yr The amount of over exaggeration about this "early retirement” is astounding. Apart from Luck, what other QB has retired while in the prime of their career(Wentz hasn’t even hit his prime). It doesn’t happen. Wentz is 27, he likely has another 150 million contract after this one. You think he’s gonna give that up? Players deal with injuries and continue playing every year. Not everyone is a **** like Luck.
May 1, 20205 yr It was pretty well known he got his bell rung pretty good. It’s not often we hear about a player’s wife being sent to the player after a head injury.

May 1, 20205 yr If the prime of your career consists of a broken wrist, a Grade 3 tear of the ACL and LCL, fractured ribs, a bad back, a severely concussed brain, and zero playoff wins you might not be very prime.
May 1, 20205 yr He got his bell rung. We know. Show me one starting QB who hasn't suffered a concussion. It's rare or just not reported. Non story.

Not everyone is a **** like Luck. Wentz is a smart guy -- high school class valedictorian, 4.0 college GPA -- and will have made over $150M in pre-tax earnings by the end of his current contract. He's been good-to-great at everything he's done in his whole life. Additionally, his known injury history is as follows: Concussion (3 known: 2 in high school, 2020) Torn ACL (2017) Torn LCL (2017) Torn meniscus (2 total: 2013, 2017) Partial IT band tear (2017) Stress fracture in back (2 known: high school -- discovered when he got to NDSU, 2018) High ankle sprain (2015) Broken wrist (2015) I'm astounded that anyone can look at Wentz's history and not think he's an early retirement risk. Knowing the binary thinking that occurs when discussing this particular player, I'm expecting this to be (incorrectly) read as, "Wentz sucks and is injury prone; trade for Foles or start Hurts!" rather than what it is -- a risk assessment.

Go take a look at Big Bens injury history. Exactly one QB has retired early. One. Now everyone worries about it. Not saying you are neccesarily wrong but it isnt a likely outcome.

I think it's just more evidence of how illegal that hit was. His head was essentially sandwiched between Clowneys helmet and the ground League did a horrible job of not punishing him and I'm still pissed off about it because people are using it as if he gets hurt all of the time. He was great up until that illegal hit

May 1, 20205 yr RE: Worries about Wentz retiring young and/or suffering a serious injury Why are people talking like Carson Wentz is a clear-cut franchise quarterback and the Eagles will be doomed if does have a short career? He had an excellent season in 2017, but outside of that he's largely been an average to somewhat better than average quarterback. Excluding 2017, which only represents less than 25% of his career games, he has a career record as a starting quarterback below .500 (21-22). It isn't out of realm of possibility that 2017 was Wentz's career season.
May 1, 20205 yr Guess some of you pu$$ys forgot that this was a contact sport AND when Jacked up 250 pound dudes slam you, there's bound to be injuries Some guys are luckier than others

He was great up until that illegal hit I agree with you in principal, especially as the labeling goes, but regardless of how the injury occurred, it’s not unreasonable to be concerned going forward. He could have been attacked in a parking lot and gotten a concussion as a result, and it would still make him more susceptible to future concussions, so I see both sides of it in that sense. You are right though that the league is a bunch of ****s for taking the position they did.
May 1, 20205 yr Wentzzzzzzz couldn'tzzzzzzz rememberzzzzz nothinzzzzzzzzzz afterzzzzzzzz hizzzzzz concussionzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. No crap sherlock

Wentz is a legit top 10 QB in this league. Top 5 when he is really on like the last few games last year.

Not saying you are neccesarily wrong but it isnt a likely outcome. Retiring early isn't position-exclusive though. Luck might have been the first high-profile QB to do it, but you had Patrick Willis, Chris Borland, Luke Kuechly, hell even Gronkowski walk away early because of injuries and injury concerns. Anthony Davis retired for a year to rest, came back, got a concussion and retired again. Rashard Mendenhall retired at 26. Calvin Johnson cut out at 30. Like it or not players are much more in tune about the long-term effects of playing this game, and the idea of walking away is becoming more of a possibility to them. Wentz isn't immune to that. To be honest I was pissed about the Hurts pick and I didn't even consider this until now. If they think Wentz might not be long for the NFL, for injury reasons or for his own reasons, this might be the smartest pick they could've made.
