He's been good-to-great at everything he's done in his whole life. Additionally, his known injury history is as follows: Concussion (3 known: 2 in high school, 2020) Torn ACL (2017) Torn LCL (2017) Torn meniscus (2 total: 2013, 2017) Partial IT band tear (2017) Stress fracture in back (2 known: high school -- discovered when he got to NDSU, 2018) High ankle sprain (2015) Broken wrist (2015) I'm astounded that anyone can look at Wentz's history and not think he's an early retirement risk. Knowing the binary thinking that occurs when discussing this particular player, I'm expecting this to be (incorrectly) read as, "Wentz sucks and is injury prone; trade for Foles or start Hurts!" rather than what it is -- a risk assessment. Of course he's a risk but you know who could help prevent him from getting these injuries? Himself. All he has to do are 3 things.....run out of bounds, slide and throw it away. He does those 3 things then his career will last 3-5 years longer, maybe more.

Times are changing. They also go head to head with 300 lb lineman nearly every play. The rules are designed to protect QBs but if they are running around and not protecting themselves then oh well. Luck had no regard for his body when he played. Wentz isnt as bad but he could take care of himself better. It's ok to go out of bounds or slide. Nobody will think he's a wuss.

Apart from Luck, what other QB has retired while in the prime of their career(Wentz hasn’t even hit his prime). It doesn’t happen. Wentz is 27, he likely has another 150 million contract after this one. You think he’s gonna give that up? Players deal with injuries and continue playing every year. Not everyone is a **** like Luck. These guys aren't QBs, but Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson both did. Recently Travis Frederick just did at the age of 29 (technically, he retired at 28, but has since celebrated his birthday). 49ers had not one, but two LBs walk away like that (Patrick Willis and a kid from Stanford who made the Pro Bowl as a rookie and then walked away), unexpectedly. Going back, Jim Brown retired early, (mostly due to an argument with Art Modell). Put it this way, early retirement isn't as unusual as it used to be, and if they think he might, they would be negligent to not find replacement, and or at least a hedge against it. Some people take CTE more seriously than others... and I wouldn't call Luck names because he decided to walk away. And yes, if Wentz' health is poor, I absolutely believe that he would potentially walk away from another $150M contract.
May 1, 20205 yr Wentz gets 1 or 2 more concussion and all bets are off. Not saying it will be a done deal at that point, but the stigma and fear around brain damage is far more prevalent now than ever. Let's hope it never comes to that.
May 1, 20205 yr If only there was a strategic approach to avoiding injuries which they could employ, that would fit with what the Eagles do on offense. Maybe they could add a bunch of speedy and quick guys to the roster on offense, so Wentz could get rid of the ball faster instead of waiting for slower guys to get open...

He did that last year and stayed healthy all 16 games. He got knocked out of the playoffs from a dirty hit delivered by a dirty player.

You can sort of say that about most players though. I mean I didnt make it past the high school level and even I got a concussion.

Off course you can, the elevated concern here however is that Wentz already is one concussion in, and a severe one at that. Subsequent concussions, God forbid, are at greater risk of being more frequent and more damaging.

I can see where after this contract Wentz might decide that's it.

One guy who fell off a dirt bike couldn't remember his wife of ten years name. I guess it's short term though? And the memory generally comes back?

May 2, 20205 yr I mean, I'm not arguing for or against Carson Wentz, but simply using that concussion statement... I had teammates not know what team we were playing while staring at the other team. It'd be a joke. Turns out it wasn't funny, but you'd just puke and go back in and play ... that random team you didn't recognize. 🤣

Remember on the old Eagles messageboard how Don Corleone and rest of the Wentz homers going berserk when trading Wentz while his value was high was suggested... lol

It happened to be my birthday that day and I must have asked my parents 20 times what day it was that day. They would tell me the date and I would respond, "Oh, today’s my birthday.” every time over the course of 5-6 hours. Probably one of the most bizarre experiences of my life. But eventually, within a few days, everything got back to normal. No long term memory loss, etc.
