Report: Lurie believes in Hurts, Roseman less confident

Whether or not Jalen Hurts will be the Eagles quarterback of the future has been a heated debate throughout this season.

It seems there is some debate inside the NovaCare Complex as well.

According to a report from Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane, owner Jeffrey Lurie and general manager Howie Roseman are somewhat split on their opinion of Hurts.

McLane writes:

"Lurie is said to still believe in Hurts, but Roseman’s assessment is less confident, two independent sources familiar with their thinking said.”

This report is in line with an offseason report from ESPN that Lurie wanted to build around Hurts and was a believer in his ability to become the team’s starting quarterback. It would also seem to backup speculation that Lurie was very much involved in the decision to initially take Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Of course, considering the team is set to have three-1st round picks, the Eagles are going to have some options when it comes to the quarterback position next season. They could decide to draft a quarterback. They could trade for one of the elite-level veterans that are expected to be available — including Houston Texans quarterback DeShaun Watson.

McLane writes:

"The Eagles did preliminary work on Watson and were open to the possibility of a transaction with the Texans, even in light of multiple sexual assault allegations, sources said. While this would seem to go against Lurie’s edict, Hurts would have either left in the exchange or dropped on the depth chart. A move of such magnitude couldn’t occur without owner approval, of course. In fact, Lurie was believed to be the driving force behind his team’s interest, the two sources familiar with his thinking said. "Jeffrey has his principles,” an NFL source who worked with the Eagles said, "until it comes to quarterbacks”

What the Eagles decide to do at quarterback is going to remain one of the most interesting and important questions surrounding the team. We likely won’t get an answer for months, and if Hurts is back in 2022, it is possible there is another full season of speculation about Hurts’ future.

If Lurie is indeed still a believer in Hurts, however, it seems he is going to continue to get a real chance to win the job.

Hopefully Minshew balls out today and drives the wedge deeper between Lowie

Well he did... I'm sure based on the above Howie wants Minshew to start the next game but doesn't sound like he's going to. This is one of those rare occasions where I tend to side with Howie.
