The only white male was King Tommen from GoT who had the fakest looking beard since Team America: World Police. And a redshirt at the temple. For the record, the cast SHOULD be diverse, including aliens. But they should also be realistic Jedi. The director’s wife is horrible, and the chubby guy was silly. I'm not watching it. I'm saying if she's making the Jedi appear to be the bad guys, I'm surprised she didn't go all tEh pAtRiArChY!

The villain has whip marks on his back, the leader of the Jedi has a lightsaber whip. Gee, wonder what happened? Also the twins now switching places. This is like a pre-teen Disney Jr. or Nickelodeon show. Mae cutting her hair with a lightsaber and then posing for the camera like she's on TikTok was one of the most cringe things they've done. And once again, the Jedi at even more of the height of their power (they were on the decline in the prequels) at full strength are still weak and no match for 1 dark force user. I watched an episode of the Bear and an episode of Bands of Brothers back to back at the weekend. Different eras, different styles, but both very much show the large gap in overall quality between Disney Star Wars (largely highly rated by the critics) and what are considered to be great TV stories. The Bear quietly moves multiple stories along from different POVs in a similar length of episode to the Acolyte, and Bands of Brother had an episode where they introduce a character and then effectively kill him off by the end, while progressing the overall story and making you understand that character. Considering Disney Star Wars is overseen by someone with a long history of working in Hollywood and someone who worked with George Lucas, I still can't understand why it's so basic and it costs so much money.

Seems more business oriented than creative.

And you can tell that with what they are putting out there for us to watch - its largely soul less and reliant on cameos/call backs. There should be only so long a career is defined by who they made coffee for or who they slept/worked with. Sounds like episode 7 was another cracking example of WTF are they doing. This could be good, but it's just so badly done
July 10, 20241 yr The editing and story for this was terrible Spoiler Why would the padawan go off like that? I know he wanted to go home but that was so careless. You could argue everything was his fault What may have bothered me the biggest was showing Mae starting the fire on purpose and now showing it was an accident. Bad storytelling and bad editing Guessing Sol thought the black mist stuff was a danger to the kids and that's why he did that? Though I'm curious how that works when she starts turning misty and he's able to move in front and kind of into the mist and use his lightsaber to basically stab her. It doesn't really make sense how that worked out. Chaulk that up to bad editing The padawan's mind was fortified but the Wookie wasn't? How? Someone that was that powerful (able to take on both the padawan and Sol) wasn't able to shield his mind but the padawan could. That made no sense to me Did she knock the witches out or kill them? If she killed them then surely she's very powerful and that screws up a ton of the story because if she can solo the group like that then it begs the question of why any of this happened. If she only knocked them out and the blast killed them then I guess it goes back to Mae incidentally killing everyone and blaming it on the Jedi
July 11, 20241 yr The one thing I've enjoyed about the Acolyte is fans discussing/dissecting the story and as a by product, highlighting how vacuous the story line is. While also showing how easy it was to make it significantly better by just workshopping the concept with people who have even a mid intelligence or knowledge of the franchise. Supposedly even Marvel creatives are laughing at how bad it is. You know it's bad when even Marvel are pointing out it's crap

July 17, 20241 yr finally, the show is gonna be saved by ............................................................................ Spoiler YODA !!!!!!!!
July 17, 20241 yr As for the last episode, the overriding theme on X is Spoiler Adapting a story from a barely read series of books/comics was a bad idea The writing was bad and the plot holes got worse and worse as the series went on. It was very boring overall Darth Plagueis wasn't born/old enough for his appearance and Wookiepedia changed their lore to cover for his appearance - I didn't even know there was a Wookiepedia Lucasfilm have likely retconned the Force as Female because of the above Headland really thought she was getting a 2nd season with the ending Star Wars as we know it, is dead.

July 17, 20241 yr Author Watched the last episodes (7 and 8 together) today. Yay for working from home and taking a long lunch. Non-spoiler review first. Well, there were some better moments in these episodes than others...then as usual they mess it up with bad writing decisions, character choices that make no sense, slightly cringe moments and IMO some focus on the wrong characters. There are also some things characters are able to do with the Force that are like the Harry Potter movies. If you can do that, why isn't that done again? This is prequel-prequel so why can't characters in the subsequent timeline content do these things? Overall it's similar to the prequels and sequels where there's some elements that could work but they were executed poorly. And reading Leslye Headland's comments in interviews, I think she really wanted to do something great and had some themes and ideas that weren't bad, it's just putting it all together. She cast her wife as the leader of the Jedi council and she was awful. Every time she was on screen was terrible. Steinfeld playing the twins is not a great actress. She wasn't terrible, but it's hard to know if it was how she was directed to act or if she's not very good. I didn't care about the twins at all. The Stranger was much more interesting and it should have been about him vs the Jedi and uncovering who is Master is.
July 17, 20241 yr Author Spoiler comments Spoiler Episode 7 Were they really using a metal detector to search for the Force in the ground? Like what? Because it was obvious from the very beginning of this series that we would be shown different versions of how the story in the past played out, it was also obvious how things would happen and it wasn't a mystery at all. So it wasn't necessary, they could have just done one episode with flashbacks or periodically did some flashbacks. There were good moments between Master Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae). I thought from the first episode this would be better with the 2 of them investigating this by themselves, maybe both with their Padawans and not so many red-shirt Jedi to get killed. They could have done this like the X-Files dynamic where one argues that the witches aren't evil they just use the Force differently and no person or group has authority over the living Force. While the other is more dogmatic and rigid in the Jedi ways and not willing to listen at first. Watching the witches possess the Wookie Jedi, partly I was like this is stupid and partly I was like ok at least there's some lightsaber action. Episode 8 The Stranger's motivation doesn't make any sense. First, why bother taking Osha along and risk her messing up the plan. Unless his master - shown to be Darth Plagueis - wanted that to happen but we don't know that. I suppose Plagueis planned all along for both twins to turn to the dark side so that's how he manipulated things to play out, but that's just speculation. At times the Stranger is a creepy villain from a horror movie, other times he's chillin and a sensitive guy trying to care for the girls. He also took out so many Jedi and then ran away when the Jedi leader shows up and is alone. He could have taken revenge on her but didn't. Speaking of Plagueis, he's just been...hiding in a cave this whole time? He trained the Stranger, then had him train Mae for however long and then sat around? He wipes Mae's memory. First of all, how is that possible to do that fast in like a few seconds? Second of all, he does it while they're hugging and then they look at each other. Why not separate them? She would be looking at her exact twin but not have memory of her? That makes no sense. Third, why was any of that necessary at all? Just all 3 of them could have escaped and gone to do whatever. Osha said let Mae go and I'll train with you...why did she need to be let go? Mae was the first one to train with him and wanted this, now Osha wants it, they reconnected and wanted to be together so...all 3 of them could go back to his planet and train. Makes no sense. A large group of Jedi can't use the Force to sense where powerful force users are nearby, they need a rat guy to sniff around? Just stupid. Yoda: so stupid. Raises so many questions. What was his role? What was he doing all that time? Why is that the first time he's being told about any of this? Why isn't he sensing anything happening? If he was around for this, why did he allow Anakin to be trained at all? And she goes to him at the end as if he's perhaps above rank and has to report to him? So why not report to him all this time? It was just a stupid attempt at fan service that doesn't make any sense. Headland has explained in this interview and there are other article reviews talking about the point of this was the sisters creating life with a vergence, not that the sisters themselves were the vergence (which was said about Anakin). So Plagueis wants that power which he'll use to eventually create Anakin (I guess?) and not make the mistake of splitting them into twins. Well, they why didn't Plagueis just take his Stranger and go to the abandoned witch planet (Bednock or something?) to check it out, and take the twins. Why bother with a game to hunt down the 4 Jedi and kill them (with no weapon) in the first place? He could have gathered them and studied the vergence and trained the twins...then they have a team of 4. I get if he wanted Mae to turn more evil or something by having her take out her revenge but if his endgame was the vergence...why not go to the place where the vergence is with no one protecting it?

Yup. Introducing that character should be an iconic moment to lead Disney Star Wars into the prequels and connect the story through to Anakin, etc, while giving ample scope for new content after. Trusting that moment to a very inexperienced show runner was a brave thing to do and it ultimately failed badly. So bad, it may stop other projects for it being announced because the mess in aisle 1 is too much to clean up. 13 hours ago, NOTW said: Saw this comment online, accurate: "They wanted them to be "morally gray,” but have no idea how to write such a character outside of making them do bad thing, then good thing." I bet there are show runners/creatives out there watching that program and dying inside with how basic and inconsistent it was.
