I’ve come to the realization that Star Wars is basically like what happens when someone makes up a lie and then has to keep the story going for 50 years—constantly forgetting details, making up new ones, and eventually creating a massive tangle of contradictions that everyone just shrugs and calls "canon."

I can’t believe they had an entire fictional galaxy and came to the conclusion, "We’ll just reset everything, make the original trilogy meaningless, and Rey can be better than everyone.”

When someone stupid makes something up. An old neighbour of mine was like that. Constantly lied, would tell different people different lies and then got angry when people talked to each other and he got caught out.

Modern Hollywood, baby! Belief that they can do things better, insert new character, retcon the lore to make that character key and then complain when no one watches it. Its not unique to Star Wars tho

Dr Who decided to rewrite the lore so that the first Dr was a black girl, doubled down on it and then decided to go full woke as a way to attract the modern audience and own the long term fans. The ratings tanked and Disney cancelled their funding.

That's what I've seen but I don't know how reliable it is.

But it looks like we'll be seeing it a little earlier than we originally thought, on February 19, 2027.

This comes from an official announcement on the Star Wars website, which also revealed another piece of pretty big news. The version of A New Hope that will show in theaters in 2027 will be a "newly restored" version of the original 1977 theatrical release. This is likely the same version that was shown earlier this year in London at the Film on Film Festival.

Newly restored in George Lucas language is I did this, tweaked that etc. The man could never let the OG trilogy or prequels go, much to their own detriment.
