He's not signing a new deal with the Jags, so they lose him next year anyway. We are already elite at DT. Add Yannick to the DEs and that's a deep and dominant group. Other areas of need are LB and CB2, but I think Ngakoue could put this team over the top.
May 3, 20205 yr 1. Conversion of speed/potential at WR to real production. 2. Conversion of if's/"most with the least"/potential at QB back to consistent MVP production. 3. Edge rush. 2 of those, if lucky, could happen this year. #3 requires another offseason to address.

I think the areas they considered areas of need, WR, LB, RB, CB would be positions where they look for veterans who could fill a role. Some really good players could be released and the eagles have the cap space to sign some one or two. There are 7-8 teams with $7 million or less in cap space and haven't signed their draft picks yet. Some of those teams and others have some cap hogs that may need to be restructured or let go.

I'd rather set the bar higher so that we are favorites to win it all. But yes...we weren't statistical favorites to win it all in 2017 until about midway through the 4th quarter of SB52.
May 3, 20205 yr Missing an established LT, a swing OT, a power RB, a proven back up QB, WRs that can run routes and separate, a decent pass rush from DE, capable LBs that can run, decent CB play opposite Slay, questions about the Goblin at S, better coaching at OC & WR. Almost every team has questions, so we're no different than most. The fact we drafted like crap for years makes it more urgent now that this class contribute over the next 1-2 years.
May 3, 20205 yr 11 hours ago, JSEagle said: Yes. Wentz took a team of cardboard cutouts to the playoffs and would've beaten Seattle had he not had a cheap shot to the head. If we actually stay healthy this year Wentz locks up MVP. Wouldn't you rather the Eagles win the Super Bowl? As for the original topic, this team needs more pressure from the front four. All else being equal, a fearsome pass rush would make them contenders.
May 3, 20205 yr To win a Super Bowl, some things have to go their way. They need Dillard to play decently at LT. They need Reagor to have an immediate impact. They need the Dline to play better. They need Edwards and a rookie to play well at LB. They need Maddox to lock down the CB2 spot. They need Wallace/Mills to lock down the second safety spot. They need to stay somewhat healthy. If those things happen, this is a Super Bowl team. Is it possible? I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility. Teams that look really good one year can fall to pieces pretty quickly. So I am not sold on any team in the league being out of reach. And I like how this team looks right now.

Vaitai, Foles, Mills, Patrick Robinson, Clement, Rasul Douglas and Agholor all pretty much played way better than anyone could have ever expected that season. I think the current roster is a lot better than the one we had that year, at least in terms of potential. There was also this tweet that was just posted. So Jones just has to play at the same level that he displayed at the end of last season to lock down the CB2 spot. To me, that is probably the biggest hurdle the team has to overcome. They can survive bad LB play, and they can help out the LT if he struggles, but below average corner play can kill a team on defense.

You point is valid in general, but to call it a complete oxymoron, we'd have to disagree. Fran Duffy isn't credible? When he reports his news is spot on. Jimmy Kempski isn't credible? I will agree in advance that I believe his co-worker wrote a flimsy hit piece on Wentz, but Kempski is pretty solid. Tommy Lawlor isn't credible? He doesn't know the draft? When he ran Scout's Notebook, that site didn't nail Eagles' picks for over a decade? I get your point man. "Before you read this, LeCharles Bentley will be an Eagle." It's like a lot of these guys throw crap at a wall a lot of the time. Two of the names I mentioned that reported in the original post were ESP and Derrick Gunn. I find ESP to be a clown and Gunn isn't my favorite. In other words, I made the point that credibility can be out the door. The person I was responding to literally said that if it doesn't come out of a coaches' mouth, it's never true. Um. OK.

I respect your opinion of those guys, but over the many years of being a philly fan of all sports, I found that sportswriters treat rumors with way too much attention.....and then they repeat it. And I hate the bullsh-- of "sources say". Those sources are most likely some guy with HIS own opinion. Some of their work is good, but I hate when rumors are drummed up or when they venture into areas where they really have no expertise at all.....like "rating" a draft. My cynicism goes pretty deep. Guys like rueben frank, mike kaye, and dave zangaro should never be paid for the sh-- they write.....

I said to the poster that simply because one coach or member of the team may have an opinion and pass it off to a reporter who then runs with it, that doesn't make it a fact. I was then told that isn't how things work. That never happens according to him. It obviously happens all the time. Anyone that knows how to evaluate talent doesn't want to "rate a draft". If you asked Fran or Tommy to "rate the draft" they'd probably roll their eyes, vomit and say no. I'm not sure how you rate something so fluid to begin with. Tommy will rate beers for you if you ask. Fran will rate cheesesteaks.
May 4, 20205 yr We aren’t even the best team in our division. replacing a career loser in Garrett with a SB winning coach is going to have an Alain Vigneault type effect for Dallas it pains me to say.

May 4, 20205 yr I think the Eagles are already the best team in the NFC East, top to bottom, on paper. I like how they are building strong in the trenches, getting quicker and more athletic elsewhere. A few key weaknesses could derail them: - LB group isn't strong. Is that something opposing teams can take advantage of? - Slay is a huge upgrade at CB, then what? - Dillard taking over for Peters at LT. He seems like the right fit but he has some big shoes to fill. Injuries could decimate OL quickly; Mailata and a bunch of young, unproven guys are the backups. - How does WR room shake out? They got a bunch of athletic RBs but who does the heavy lifting? Concerns, but hopeful: - Wentz has to carry the offense on his shoulders. - I am hoping Mornhinweg can be like Reich, and the retooled coaching staff puts it together. What I like: - Defensive line is strong and they have guys that can produce coming off the bench. If LB and secondary holds up that's a scary group. - Ertz and Goedert are the best TE duo, DJax and Sanders are proven weapons. There's a lot of firepower there. And they got quicker on offense too. Let's hope they can put all those weapons to good use.

And yeah all teams have holes but obviously we know our own teams better than any other teams so can delve into things further. This team can, and should, fight to make the play offs but that in itself will be a hard fight. I don't see it going deep in to the play offs given the holes and questions though.

But sometimes in delving in further, people over analyse the weaknesses and focus on them. It's like WR. I know it was a disaster area last season, but the offense was still operating pretty well when Wentz turned it on at the end of the season. It really only needs 2-3 of our receivers to stay healthy, stretch the field and be capable of 600/700 yards each. You add in Ertz, Goedert and Sanders and that's a really good group.

That's also very true we can, and do, over analyse these things without doubt. The offense didn't perform all that well for a lot of the season. It did enough in the last few weeks but I still don't think it performed great but it was significantly hampered by injuries of course.

I think it all comes down to Wentz (and possibly how well Dillard progresses). I truly believe we will get enough from our WR corps with the additions and hopefully a bit more luck with health. If Wentz can stay healthy and play like he did at the end of last season and in 2017, we are absolutely Super Bowl contenders in my view.
