New approach to bypass Hamas and work directly with the People!

Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Tuesday that "far from empowering Hamas," aiding the reconstruction of Gaza in the wake of Israeli airstrikes "has the potential to undermine" the organization. "I say that because Hamas thrives, unfortunately, on despair, on misery, on desperation, on the lack of opportunity."

Reconstruction and relief efforts, he continued, should not only "answer the immediate needs," but also "offer a genuine prospect for opportunity, for progress, for material improvement in people's lives. And our goal is to give the Palestinian people, including those in Gaza, a renewed sense of confidence ... and if we succeed ... then Hamas' foothold in Gaza will slip."

as long as the U.S. keeps giving Israel the green light to take more land, Hamas will have a foothold.  Now if the U.S. were to actually make a significant policy change and come out strongly against new Israeli settlements, then maybe they could discredit Hamas

Last post on this. The morons calling out...checks notes...16 time WWE champ John Cena for being a coward are just about the worst people on the planet. Same as those who called out the NBA for China. Newsflash -- the China/Taiwan relationship is one of the most delicate foreign policy conundrums in modern times. If the US were to grant full diplomatic recognition to Taiwan as an independent nation, we'd likely cause the immediate invasion of Taiwan by China. Which would force us to defend Taiwan. Which means...we would be at war with China.

Now, if you're that big a supporter of self-determination, then petition your government to formally recognize Taiwan. But no administration, Republican of Democratic, has been that stupid for a reason. For now we get to have an independent Taiwan, trade with them, arm them and keep China happy because they save face. But yeah, let's go to war because orange man said China is bad...

SPOILER ALERT: The Trump administration didn't change US/Taiwan policy.

Yeah I honestly still think we should diplomatically recognize Taiwan. The more pressure that is put on China, the better.

PRC realizes their sun is setting, and they will do whatever to consolidate what power they have left. From a military standpoint, they don’t possess the force projection capabilities to invade Taiwan. It would be a bloodbath, and PRC knows this.

Lol, no. Look, I hate the Chinese Communist Party as much as anyone. Really. But this smacks of denialism. China's star is still rising, and all the U.S. can really manage to do right now is keep up appearances. Unless we do some real soul searching and rebuild our social and economic infrastructure to expand the middle class and legitimately compete in the 21st century, China is going to eat our lunch and laugh in our faces whilst chowing down.

We can't compete with China when we have the GOP voting against any bill passed by Dems. If the Dems passed a bill saying today was Wednesday, the GOP would vote against it.

Our Dysfunction is helping our enemies. They count on it and yet, the do nothing GOP plays right into their hands.

It’s not just the American left that has fostered a dangerous environment for Jews. The British left has too.

Curious how you always condemn the messenger, rather than the behavior.

Curious that are unable to see behavior unless performed by a specific party.

Thanks for that suggestion several years ago. Indeed, it was a great account of things.

Belarus accuses West of war, journo still detained

  •

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko accused the West on Wednesday (May 26) of trying to use the diversion of a Ryanair plane to wage hybrid war against him...

..and said the journalist pulled off the plane had been plotting a rebellion.

In his first public speech since the incident, Lukashenko had this to say to parliament:

"As we predicted, our ill-wishers from outside the country and from inside the country changed their methods of attack on the state. They have crossed many red lines and have abandoned common sense and human morals. This is not information warfare anymore, this is modern hybrid warfare. We must do everything to prevent it to become a real war."

Sounds very interesting, thanks. It is very intriguing how China has transformed into an enconomic powerhouse through largely capitalist means while maintaining a communist facade. It makes you wonder how much of the country really buys into it. I'm sure a good portion is effectively brainwashed, but even a good portion of a billion people still leaves a large amount of potential subversives.

It’s not capitalistic means in the slightest. If we want to get technical, it most closely resembles a fascistic economic model. Basically, corporations are ostensibly private, but practically the means of production is state controlled. Everything from their banks to construction companies to tech giants act as vehicles of the state to enact policy and achieve goals.

As far as how many are brainwashed, I’d say not many. There is a reason so many people of means try to get their wealth and family out of China.

Perhaps I worded that wrong. What I meant was that they are a totalitarian state that has adopted this sort of veneer of free enterprise, if that makes sense. They're trying to have their cake and eat it, too.

If by free enterprise, you mean that the government owns, and controls, everything, then yeah, that makes sense.

Not specifically. It's certainly an area I'd like to understand better. China is an economic powerhouse, and we appear to be losing ground. It's a concerning trend. How do we compete going forward?

In reality, yes, but China puts on this act like they're allowing a degree of private enterprise to exist within the confines of an authoritarian system. They promote this illusion of economic freedom. If only in word rather than deed, they've certainly liberalized their economic system since the days of Mao and the Great Leap Forward.

They arent capitalism. Not even a little. the left who like to parrot that nonsense just want the same kind of fascist control here.

If you really want to compete you try to break their currency and spark an uprising. But that crap tends to lead to wars. Big ones.
