I get that we only had two, so we can't squander them, but I'm not sure the choice of targets with those types of weapons was the best. Admittedly, I'm not immersed in the history there to know if there were more appropriate targets, and I know that we avoided kyoto for its religious and cultural significance, but the amount of civilians killed can't allow me to not question it. And yeah I know I'm doing this through the luxury of hindsight from an era where certain types of warfare (e.g. chemical weapons) are forbidden now when they weren't then, and yes obviously war is hell and that was the worst in history but, I don't know, I just can't help but wonder if there was a middle ground between bombing those cities and a mainland invasion. Maybe there wasn't, but we'll never know.

The number of civilians killed was actually necessary. Japan's defense plans are known. Their plan was to fight to the last man, using civilians, in an attempt to make an invasion so costly that America would be forced to settle for a peace treaty instead of an unconditional surrender. And it wasn't some delusionary idea that wouldn't have had support by the populace -- the Japanese were absolutely ready and willing to fight to the bitter end. It wasn't a case where we could say, "hey, look at this totally uninhabited area we just vaporized," in a demonstration of power where the Japanese would very rationally respond, "OK we give up." They had to feel the pain and witness the horror in order to get to a place psychologically where surrender was even an option on the table for them.

I also think the reason 2 bombs were used is that both were engineered differently and we wanted to see the real world effect of each design.

They were extremely expensive weapons. We only had two of them. I very much doubt we would risk an air crew, a flight, the possibility of the plane being shot down, the possibility of the weapon falling into enemy hands, for nothing other than a test. If we wanted to test the bomb, we could have done it in the US without so many variables and risks.

Hard to test real world effects of an atomic bomb on a city and its people in your own country man. I mean I guess technically you could but it would be kinda hard to explain.

Fat Man had been tested but Little Boy was not until it was dropped on Japan.

We have nuclear test ranges. You can build mock cities and use live stock if you absolutely must have tests on living beings. Zero reason to drop it on Japan as a test with numerous reasons why you wouldn't take the risk.

Well since Little Boy had never been tested, that's exactly what they did lol.

The first time you use any device is pretty much a test, is it not?

Nothing like U.S. Taxpayer money used to pay Islamic Terrorists. They deserve everything they get form Israel.

Palestinian president pays $42k to family of terrorist who killed Israelis after Biden restarted aid: report

The president of the Palestinian Authority reportedly greenlit a payment of $42,000 to a terrorist who stabbed two Israelis to death as part of the government’s policy of paying terrorists following the Biden administration’s $100 million aid package to the Gaza Strip.

Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas this week reportedly sent a district governor of Ramallah, Laila Ghannam, to personally deliver the cash to the family of Muhannad Al-Halabi, who was part of the terrorist group Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

The payment came "on behalf of Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas to ‘complete the payment of the cost’ of their home, which was demolished by Israel following the attack," according to the a report from the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI). The MEMRI report was first flagged by the Washington Free Beacon.

Have you got the receipt? Here are the first pictures of the $6,000 "Boris bike” gifted to the PM by the President yesterday, complete with a blue helmet bearing the American and British flags. The bicycle was handmade by Philadelphia-based Bilenky Cycle Works, and is apparently "a remake of the classic English 3 speed in lightweight form.” Johnson gave Biden a framed photo of anti-slavery campaigner Frederick Douglass printed out from Wikipedia.

Umm I thought Benjamin Netanyahu was the right wing nationalist.

this is a weird place that Israel has found itself.

Bibi was right-wing, but not as right wing as Bennett is. yet Netanyahu is so universally reviled by other political parties that they all - right wing nationalists and those left of Likud - joined together in a coalition to oust him.

I believe the idea is to share power, but I don't see that happening. how the right-winger ended up getting the first term I don't know. but the plan I believe is like 2 years of Bennett and then it hands off to whoever the moderate/left-winger leadership is (Benny Gantz? I don't know). of course by then I have little doubt that Bennett will walk away without a fight, not to mention in a parliamentary system that can hold snap elections all of this could be moot.

New boss. Same as the old boss.

It's like Trump gets ousted, and you get someone like Rand Paul instead.

Yair Lapid is the alternate Israeli PM, 2023-2025, followed by elections in 2025. He's center-populist, as I understand. It'll be an ugly fight if Bennett refuses to step down, as this was the agreement made. Lapid's party finished second to Bibi in the last elections, so he's got the support.... If Bennett makes the power play to hold PM, I would think he must appeal back to Bibi, where he'd play second fiddle anyway, so I don't see what's the gain.

Dems Shocked, Disappointed To Learn The New Israeli Prime Minister Will Still Be A Jew
June 14th, 2021 - BabylonBee.com

article-8785-1.jpg

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Top Democratic lawmakers expressed deep dismay after learning that Israel, having at last ousted the villainous Netanyahu, plans to replace him with another Jew.

"Another Jew? I mean, are you kidding me?" said Ilhan Omar. "That has to be like, eight Jews in a row now as prime minister. Israel really can't find one Hamas guy, or one ISIS guy out there that can do the job? And people want to try to tell us they haven't established an apartheid state. Ridiculous."

Although still head of the most popular party in Israel, Prime Minister Netanyahu has become something of an international pariah for continuing to insist that his country ought to exist. His twelve years as prime minister have been marred by several refusals to have all the Jewish people lay down their weapons and die. As word spread that a coalition government would finally oust Mr. Netanyahu, the entire United Nations along with America's Democratic party began hoping that the new leadership would reconsider accepting Jewish annihilation - but it was not to be.

"Heard it's another Jew," sighed Rashida Tlaib. "I can't say I'm surprised. My entire life, Israel has just gone from one Jew to the next. Israel is one of those free, capitalist countries, so you have to expect that kind of bigotry. Would have accepted any self-loathing non-religious guy, though deep down I had hoped for a lemming that would simply lead them all into the sea."

Sources say the new coalition government will set a historical first by including the main party representing Arabs who reside in Israel. The Arab inclusion within Israel's ruling coalition prompted outrage from Representative Ocasio-Cortez, who likened it to black Americans running on the Republican ticket. "It's like, enjoy apartheid much? I just can't believe Middle East Arabs would work together with Jews. It's like black people here working with police to help make communities safer, it's so triggering. Of all people, those Arabs should know better-- it will only be more of the same 'we have a right to live' and 'we need missiles to stop Hamas from bombing nursing homes'. Classic Jew moves!"
