One, I am happy for Rivera to be out of that mess of a franchise. He deserves better.

The Commanders need to burn it all down to start over fresh from the ground up. This is about as bad as it gets and I think they're being honest about their next steps. They might have a coach in place before a new GM... The next front office isn't in place, it won't be soon, and Harris is reaching out for temporary help to fill in the gaps. Not a quick fix. Sounds like they may embark on a multi-year rebuild.

Haven’t they been on a multi year rebuild for decades?

Commies hired ex-GM of the Golden State Warriors (Bob Myers) to lead the search for a new GM.

They're getting laughed at pretty hard, but it's not a terrible strategy.  Bob Myers won't be the next GM, but he can help to advise Josh Harris.  I've actually been pretty impressed with the Harris ownership group during this transition.  Keeping Rivera until after the season was the right thing to do.   They are reaching out to interview most of the candidates, have the search committee organized.

I wonder if after this Harris (who also owns the 76ers and Devils) would look to have Myers in a role with the Sixers.

I feel bad for Ron Rivera. He was never going to succeed with that franchise, they were a complete shambles and never addressed the most important position in football with stop gap crap at QB. Add in the Snyder disfunction, it was just a horrible place for any coach. He is probably at the point in his career that he will retire now

Unless he plans or replacing Morey the answer is no. Harris will just pick the biggest name he can find on the market even if they are a the right fit. I don't think this committee is going to do much because they need to hire the right GM first and let them do their job. Like last time he hired Doc as coach first and then hired Morey as the president of basketball.  Now they have Nurse as the coach and are in a much better spot.

I still don't see much changing with this team, I don't think Harris is a very good owner from his time with the 76'ers. They decided to start the process and bailed as soon as there was a little bit of pressure before hiring the Colangelo's. He left old big collar in charge and that was a disaster. He then let Elton Brand run the show which wasn't much better. Meanwhile he didn't want to pay out Doc Rivers contract to the detriment of the team and they kept dumping salary to stay under the luxury tax threshold. There was also a period where they were constantly dumping second round picks for cash considerations.

I don't know how I can forget the 76'ers wanting to cut staff salaries during the pandemic, Embiid had to step in and say he will pay them instead before Harris backflipped on the situation.

The process actually started well before Harris became Sixers owner.  That process was forced on the Sixers after the disastrous trade for Andrew Bynum in 2012 that set the team back several years (on paper, it looked like a great trade as Bynum was only 25 but he suffered a serious injury and was out of the NBA a couple of years later).  The Sixers did what they did to get out from under that trade.

Harris was the owner when the Bynum trade happened. He also hired Hinkie....

Given how terrible the Washington football franchise has been, I think they'd be overjoyed with the level of success that the 6ers have right now.  Time will tell, but it's gonna be hard to be worse than Dan Snyder.

Well they just poached the 49ers To fill their GM position so not a Bad start

Even though it was the Redskins stadium, it's a bit of a shame to see it go. I grew up close by, so I went to a lot of events there. Pro Soccer games, USFL games, a Billy Graham event and a few Redskins games. The biggest being the '82 NFCCG vs. Dallass. My brothers, a few friends and I spent the night outside the stadium waiting in line to get the tickets.

It's a very old stadium though, I think it was built in the early 60's (61 or 62) and even in the 70's and 80's when I was going there, it had some issues. So it's probably time to bring it down. Especially with no teams using it.

I lived and worked in the District of Columbia region, which frankly should have been fully razed in 1812, when the Expos moved south and became the Nationals. They played in RFK (SR, not JR... you hear me everyone? RFK SR !) for a couple of years until they built a new stadium right between a Navy yard and a full on ghetto. Anyway, if the Phillies came to town and had a day game on a weekday, I could get a ten quid nosebleed ticket, and sit wherever I wanted because the stadium was half empty. Good times.

Apparently RFK has been empty since 2019. So it's time for it to go.

It opened in the fall of 1961 (opening as DC Stadium) and is considered the first of the multi-purpose stadiums built in the 1960's and '70s.

Washington made an odd decision to hire Bobby Johnson, previously of the Giants, as its OL coach.  While Johnson served as the Giant's OL coach, he was skewered for not coaching up Evan Neal properly.  The team also gave up the second most amount of sacks in league history.

Washington burned a no. 2 overall pick on a razor thin QB out of LSU - Jayden Daniels.  The guy looks like he could break in two.  Washington does not have a lot of talent on its OL, and its OL coach was fired with good cause by the Giants.

Why in the world would you put your young, vulnerable QB in such a situation - especially a player you have so much invested in?

Jason Wright becomes senior adviser, will depart Commander by end of 2024

Jason Wright has transitioned out of his role as Commanders president and is set to depart the organization by the end of the 2024 season, news that was first reported by the Washington Post.

Wright will now serve as a senior advisor to team owner Josh Harris, who bought the franchise last summer. He’ll primarily focus on the team’s search for a new stadium site and naming rights partner, while Harris begins his search for the next Commanders’ president.

"This feels like the right moment for me to explore my next leadership opportunity,” Wright told the Post in a statement. "I’m extremely grateful to my Commanders colleagues, our fans and this community for all that we have accomplished these past four years, and am looking forward to the start of a very successful season for the Burgundy and Gold.”

"Jason has made a remarkable impact on the Commanders organization since he joined four years ago,” Harris said in a statement to the Post. "He stepped in at a time of immense challenge and has led this organization through an incredible transformation that set that stage for everything that is to come. I am extremely grateful to Jason for his partnership to me and the rest of the ownership group over the past year. His guidance has been invaluable and his leadership has helped reshape our culture.”

According to the report, Wright’s previous contract was set to expire next month. The team is also prepared to support Wright departing should he find another position before the end of the season.

Wright joined the organization in Aug. 2020 when the franchise was known as the Washington Football Team. He was the first Black team president in league history.

Wright was also reportedly a finalist to be the next Packers CEO, but Green Bay elected to promote from within and announced Ed Policy will take over in the role next summer

Wright has to be about the last of the Snyder management team, isn't he?

Washington Commanders' home renamed Northwest Stadium

At first I thought it was the now defunct airline because, well, Commanders.

But its Northwest Federal Credit Union.  A credit union small enough that the team owner could buy it.

'Northwest' stadium -- which is neither in the north or the west.  Makes sense.  Isn't 'North West' also the name of Kanye West's child?

Commanders drafted seven players in 2023, and five of them were cut today

Quote

The five players who were released are third-round center Ricky Stromberg, fourth-round tackle Braden Daniels, fifth-round defensive end KJ Henry, sixth-round running back Chris Rodriguez and seventh-round defensive end Andre Jones

That’s bad, right?

I hope they somehow finish in 2nd place, ahead of the Cowgirls.

Commanders suspend VP for comments on players, Jones, Goodell

The Washington Commanders have suspended an employee who made comments about the team's players being anti-gay, accused Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones of being boob and anti-gay and called NFL commissioner Roger Goodell a "$50 million puppet."

The team said it has suspended its vice president of content, Rael Enteen, who has been with the organization for four years, for comments he made to an undercover reporter for the O'Keefe Media Group.

According to a social media video from the media group, Enteen had met the reporter on the dating app Hinge and met with her twice at local restaurants.

"The language used in the video runs counter to our values at the Commanders organization," a team spokesperson said in a statement. "We have suspended the employee pending an investigation and will reserve further comment at this time."

He told the undercover reporter that, "over 50% of our roster is white religious, and God says, 'F--- the gays.' Their interpretation. I don't buy any of that. Another big chunk is low-income African Americans that comes from a community that is inherently very homophobic."

On the video, Enteen also said some players are "dumb as hell" and said some who were smart don't stay that way after getting hit in the head too many times. He also said those who "get their heads knocked around a few times" are more susceptible to conspiracy theories.

Enteen also said, "I don't think the commissioner of the NFL hates gay people, hates black people. Jerry Jones, who really runs the NFL, I think he hates gay people, black people."

Enteen, who was with the New York Jets for two years before coming to Washington, called the league's social justice initiatives "performative."

"It's not done out of the goodness of their heart," he said. "It's done because George Floyd changed the game ... It's to make as much money as possible. The NFL cares about the bottom line, like any corporation, above all else."

Enteen said because the league makes so much money, "they can faux prioritize DEI for the sake of good publicity."

Enteen told the undercover reporter that "most of the fans are high-school-educated alcoholics" and called them "mouth breathers."

Enteen also told the reporter, whose name was not revealed and who can only be heard on the video, that his job is to sell hope. Three years ago, there were videos of pipes leaking. Fans said it smelled like sewage, but Enteen said he tweeted out that it was just water.

"That," he said, "is state-run media."
