Are Apple AirTags Being Used to Track People and Steal Cars?

Privacy groups sounded alarms about the coin-sized location-tracking devices when they were introduced. Now people are concerned those fears are being realized.

Hard to believe bad people would use this to do bad things.

Tile has the exact same capability.

Seems like this product is perfect for a criminal to follow you, without the victim being aware of it.

Apple HQ is where the criminals are.

Yeah, and the criminals love this product to help them out with their crimes.

Your phone tells you that there is a tag following that doesn’t belong to you. Just saying

is the problem the product or that people are becoming aware that products like these exist

I did the opposite.  I bought an AirTag and put it in a discreet place in my car.  So if someone steals my car, I can track it unless they assume there's an AirTag in it and spend the time looking for it.

True but the report highlights that the phone doesn't alert you right away. Apple says they alert you up to 24 hrs. and several victims didn't get alerted for several hours until they got home all the time their whereabouts were being tracked. Pretty creepy.

For me it's the product and It's already being misused.

I get this notification when I spend a lot of time with my wife and daughters phones around.

I like getting notified that the AirPods in my pocket got left behind somewhere
