The Philadelphia Eagles were bounced from the playoffs on Sunday thanks to a 31-15 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. One thing that became clear throughout that game is that Jalen Hurts is not ready for prime time as a quarterback. This offseason, the Eagles could look to level up at the position if they don't see Hurts' upside.

Philadelphia owns three first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft -- No.'s 15, 16 and 19 -- and five overall selections in the first 83. They have the ammunition to trade for a top-flight signal caller. What follows is a list of three quarterbacks the Eagles could trade for this offseason.

Russell Wilson

The Seattle Seahawks went 7-10 and were a mess this year. There are whispers the franchise might hit the reset button this offseason. Russell Wilson has already made noise about wanting to be traded. It wouldn't be surprising if that popped up again.

The Seahawks don't have a first-round pick this year thanks to the ill-fated Jamal Adams trade. They need picks if they're going to rebuild following a 7-10 campaign. Philadelphia has young, athletic receivers and appears ready to take things to the next level. There's a fit here if the Eagles can push hard enough.

Deshaun Watson

The seemingly endless Deshaun Watson saga has to end at some point and no one thinks he'll play a down for the Houston Texans again. He's an extremely talented quarterback, and if his legal woes get resolved, he'll be playing somewhere in the NFL again. Why not Philly?

Watson is better than Hurts in every way. He's a three-time Pro Bowler who appeared to be improving every season until his career was derailed by sexual misconduct allegations and he sat out the entire 2021 season. The Texans will eventually move him and a package of picks like the Eagles can offer is the kind of deal they'll be looking for. It makes sense for both sides.

Again, this is obviously all assuming he somehow sorts out all of that legal trouble.

Kirk Cousins

The Minnesota Vikings are another team that looks ready to hit the reset button. Mike Zimmer has been fired and they could decide to move Kirk Cousins to help facilitate the change.

Cousins put up solid numbers this year but had an uneven season. Some new scenery could make things better for him. He completed 66.3 percent of his passes in 2021 for 4,221 yards, with 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions. His passer rating of 103.1 was excellent, but his QBR of 52.0 ranked 15th in the league.

Cousins would be an upgrade over Hurts and likely wouldn't cost the kind of draft capital Wilson or Watson would, but is equally as expensive cap-wise.

Jimmy Garoppolo

Jimmy Garoppolo had a solid second half of the season to help guide the San Francisco 49ers to the playoffs. He's obviously not the future in San Francisco after the Niners selected Trey Lance with the third pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Garoppolo has one year left on his contract and the 49ers will likely look to get a return for him instead of losing him for nothing after next season.

Garoppolo has shown he can win games at the NFL level if he's surrounded by good players. The Eagles have talent on the lines and on the perimeter. At the very least he'd provide some competition for Hurts and possibly make him step up his game. He'd come slightly cheaper than other options and has consistently won at the NFL level (33-14 as a starting quarterback) when he isn't sidelined by injury.

He's yet another low-cost option that could provide some upside for the Eagles.

No to all 4.

1. Too old and visible fading away.

2. Way too many allegations of sexual misconduct. It only takes 1 to be proven to send him away and force you to cut him.

3. Erratic player who doesn't come up big when needed most. How you like that!!!

4. Marginal talent who isn't good enough to be long term answer here.

I say look to the 2023 draft.

Cousins? Jimmy G?  Wow, really?  The idea of trading for a QB would be to get an actual UPGRADE.  Wilson and Watson are the only upgrades there.

Daniel Jeremiah actually posted a hypothetical trade on Twitter last night...our 3 firsts and next year's 2nd for Wilson.  My response was: Are you smoking crack?

No F'ing way  would I give all that up for Wilson.  I don't really want to trade for him at all, but I could live with something like one of our firsts and Hurts...something along those lines.  But all three 1sts...AND...next year's 2nd?  No way.

Watson is an interesting one.  If his cases get resolved, then it becomes more realistic.  On the field, Watson is awesome.  But, he's going to bring some bad ju-ju wherever he goes.  He'll be a media circus and we'd have to give up KILLER compensation.  Not sure it's worth it.

Spot on.

Nothing there solves anything.

Terrible -

  • Wilson is a shot player. And who are the young athletic receivers the Eagles have besides Smith
  • Watson, whether he settles the accusations or not he's a scum bag
  • Cousins - $45M cap hit and we have $13M. All numbers team - no big wins and no playoffs
  • Garoppolo - can't stay healthy. Re-read the 2nd paragraph by this nitwit writer - it there a grain of truth or sense in it.

I'm surprised the idiot who wrote this didn't include Rodgers.

Agree with all of this and the cap hits are as follows:

Wilson: 37 million

Watson: 40 million

Cousins 45 million

Jimmy G - bargain at 27 million.

We currently have 13 million in cap space and need as a minimum 1 starting safety, a starting corner and probably a WR2 in free agency. Plus we need money for draft picks.

Wait for 2023 draft.

No, no, no and hmm maybe. Do not want any part of Wilson thanks. A few years ago sure but not now. Watson will be too expensive regardless of the off field stuff. Coupons? Are you freaking kidding me.

But Jimmy G? Hmm... I'm not in on that but I'm not out on it either. For the right price I wouldn't be against it.

Wilson will cost AT LEAST two first, more likely three. Plus a big chunk of the cap. No thanks.

Wouldn’t even consider Watson with his legal issues.

Cousins… LOL

Jimmy G… average QB who is often injured. Pass.

There is absolutely no QB available who will be worth what it would cost to trade for them. And there are none worth draft in the first round.

Hurts isn’t the long term answer IMO, but he’s going to have to be a placeholder for next season while they build the rest of the roster, then add a QB in 2023.

If Wilson wasn't so good throwing to Lockett and Metkalf this year why would he be any better with only Smith here? We'd have to give up too many picks for him and then we wouldn't be able to get him any more help anyway... No thanks... Not even sure id give up 3 firsts for him 5 years ago let alone now

I think we all know what the offseason game plan should be:

Players to let go:

- Trade Reagor for anything or cut him

- Let Barnett become a FA

- Send JJAW to the practice squad

Players to offer for a trade but keep them if the value isn’t there:

- Brooks, Dillard, Cox

Free agency:

- Spend $ on a top WR to pair with Devonta and maybe a second large WR

Draft:

- Focus on defense to get at least one high round, playmaking DE, DB and LB unless Linderbaum drops to us and becomes Kelce’s eventual replacement

- Look for another opportunistic trade- back like the Miami trade last year to get an additional 1st or 2nd rounder for 2023 in case we need draft capital for a QB if Hurts fails to progress

I don't think Wilson is shot. I think the offense is, as well as the OL. He still makes great throws.

Only way to make this article more ridiculous would be to add Carson Wentz.

Wilson does not want to come to Philly, his wife is targeting a place like NY and LA for her career. So Wilson is out.

NO NO for Deshaun Watson

Cousins - NO

Jimmy G - NO

Roll with Hurts and burn one more year, we will be picking high enough next year if Hurts plays like he is playing now, setting Eagles up well to draft the next franchise QB.....

In the meantime, need to have a great draft and free agency this year, so the team moving forward with a potential future signal caller (if not Hurts) will help Eagles go deep into the playoffs or superbowl...

Cant get rid of Reagor yet because it adds 2.5 million to the cap.
