time2rock
DeVonta Smith gets brutally honest on Jalen Hurts’ future as QB1 Tim Capurso January 17, 2022 The Philadelphia Eagles were eliminated from the postseason after their Wild Card round loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It wasn’t a good showing by the Eagles on either side of the ball, as quarterback Jalen Hurts turned the ball over twice and helped Philadelphia put just 15 points on the board in the disappointing loss. Hurts’ connection with talented rookie wide receiver DeVonta Smith, who didn’t seem to be on the same page as his quarterback, was dissected following the playoff loss. However, Smith got brutally honest about Hurts when asked about the signal-caller’s future as the Eagles’ QB1, via Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports. Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith didn’t hold back when asked about Jalen Hurts’ future as the franchise’s starting quarterback. In Smith’s eyes, Hurts can be "the guy.” Smith did elaborate a bit, saying that Hurts showed this ability "most days.” Sunday’s playoff loss certainly wasn’t one of those, as the Buccaneers essentially dared Hurts, Smith and the Eagles to beat them through the air- and they couldn’t. However, as Smith pointed out, this was Hurts’ first playoff start- and the Alabama product has "responded to adversity”, such as when he bounced back earlier this year from a turnover-riddled start against the New York Giants. There’s also the matter of Hurts’ injury. Ultimately, the bottom line is this. As DeVonta Smith said, Jalen Hurts did enough on most days to earn the trust of Eagles’ brass as the team’s starter. Hurts can be the guy in the future. However, he’ll have to prove that he can keep their trust after his performance in the playoff loss. https://clutchpoints.com/eagles-news-devonta-smith-gets-brutally-honest-on-jalen-hurts-future-as-qb1/

Brutally honest - not in the slightest. Headline should have been - Smith gets vaguely positive and non-committal on Jalen Hurts' future as QB1.
Miami
You can make a pretty good case that Smith could do a lot more if Hurts could pass better. Saw Smith look frustrated on a few occasions this year because the pass was inaccurate.
