How is it a "fallacy of the middle" to desire a body politic (of which SCOTUS is part of, even if it holds a position insulated from the whims of politics) that reflects the views of the citizens?

We could argue whether that is a good or necessary thing, but it's not a fallacy of the middle.

This is a red herring by the way.

You wouldn't know a red herring if it slapped you across the face.

He probably faked an illness just to get away for a few days.

Maybe he should just leave some pubes on her coffee mug and the problem will take care of itself.

This pertains to arguments, not power differentials. Power in a republic is supposed to be divided and diffused according to the composition of the body politic.

All this is…is an argument

power differential is a matter of opinion and changes organically over time

This is where you miss the boat

you dont want them to reflect the views of the stupid masses. Thats why its a body of experts. It should in no way reflect the ignorance of the citizens. Its designed to not do exactly that

Sure, ok. This falls into the "we could argue whether that is a good or necessary thing" category. But "fallacy of the middle" doesn't fit.

Sure it does.

you guys seem to think the optimal solution lies in the middle. Its pretty mich the definition of that compromise fallacy

That's just stupid dude.

A body politic that reflects the population doesn't imply some fallacy of the middle. There's plenty of consensus society makes without being "in the middle".

FWIW, fallacy of the middle is assuming that when there are two strongly held positions that the truth is somewhere in the middle.

To be sure there's plenty of instances where the middle is the best bet, the fallacy's in the assumption of it being correct.

Having a body politic that represents a broad set of viewpoints is not itself a fallacy of the middle, but if you want a benevolent dictatorship by all means check out Singapore.

Everything is a tradeoff. But synthesizing outcomes across a broad cross section of people and the fallacy of the middle are bizarre concepts to try and correlate.

Except the power differential was not allowed to change organically when Mitch stole the seat from Garland.

Our system is intentionally designed to give the minority outsized power. That's fine, but it's also a natural source of domestic tension, and when McConnell employed chicanery to manipulate the division of power in a way that further exacerbated the minority's disproportionate influence, it served to further distort the nature of representation in a way that is inimical to the long-term stability of a republic.

Stole still betrays some notion your side was entitled to it…

partisan heal thyself

political bs has a long long history in dc even for the SC. And yes i would call that move bs.
