This is mostly on artificial snow - you know, the preferred snow of skiers everywhere. I hope the Olympic committee members enjoy the bribes.

The IOC isn't corrupt at all.

Yea I mentioned that to my wife when they showed the cooling towers. Like how is there not a better location to build the hill? I'm as much as a nuclear power advocate as anyone, but even I'm not dumb enough to think it makes for a good backdrop for a F'ing Olympic event.

So, just FYI for everyone.

Those types of industrial cooling towers are used for more than just nuclear applications. I had immediate doubts that it was a nuclear facility as soon as I saw the proximity of the ski ramp.

I just looked it up and it was apparently an old steel plant.

I don't know why they chose that location, but nobody will be growing a third arm. There may be some flashdancing going on at night, though.

Fair enough. Still looks ugly and ridiculous as a backdrop.

Why have the Winter Olympics is a place requiring fake snow.

There are places with snow in China. They have these mountains. My guess is, it is easier to spy on/steal from the athletes and support people where they are now.

Russian athlete Valeria Vasnetsova posted this photo on Instagram. She says that the same meal has been served at the Winter Olympics in Beijing for "breakfast, lunch, and dinner for five days already."

Out of 80 starters 31 didn't even make it to the bottom in the giant slalom.  That course is sheet.

All artificial snow, poor facilities, athletes starving.

F you, China, F you in the face.

I mean, yeah, F China, but wtf did these athletes expect?

From cardboard beds last year to this ish now in China, it's hilarious how much money is made off of these world-class athletes while they're treated like they're low-rent tourists.

Russia just gets to keep competing and doping every other year. IOC is such a joke. Putin must've wired them enough Bitcoin to stay in the competition.

This is what a diplomatic boycott gets you. Either be in the games and support your people, or don't go at all.

There are always consequences.

The difference between Richardson and Valieva is the Russian skater's age: Because she is under 16, the the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled she is a "Protected Person" and can compete. In response, IOC said they will not hold a medals ceremony if she wins. They will wait until her doping case is resolved.

I don't like the ruling. I understand Valieva is a kid, so they don't want to cause harm. But she broke the rules. It's the fault of her coaches and Russian team. Now all of the skaters must suffer consequences because one team broke the rules. I feel they should not let her compete.

I fail to see any difference age makes.

Sure, but exactly how did you wind up ingesting grandpa's meds? Or did you submit his blood or urine for a test?

That is the best excuse they can come up with.

If you haven't watched Icarus on Netflix, you should. It's all about Russia and their doping.

Yeah this is pure horseshit. The IOC is a joke. Oh she's only 15? IDGAF. If that's ever in consideration, maybe you need to bump up the minimum age to 18 instead of forcing these kids to compete while you line your pockets. Cheating is cheating regardless of age, and this wasn't exactly an isolated incident. The country in question deserves some form of punishment even if your stance is not to punish the individual athlete who merely went along with what she was being told to do.
