Not so good without pop-pop's meds, eh?

I'm confused. Shouldn't we be calling her a hero now for dealing with the stress and mental health issues? Or is that only for athletes that quit instead of trying and failing?

But she's only 15. She should be scored differently and win anyway.

I still contend Valieva should not have been allowed to compete.  She should not have been put in that situation.

Russian team has 4 years to clean up their act, so hopefully she will get a chance to compete in the Olympics again.

Go watch Icuras on Netflix. They have been cheating for 30 years.

so wait, people actually watch the winter olympics ?

I don't think anyone should get a free pass, but please spare me the Richardson wokester tears.

Yeah, the rule for suspending people for marijuana is outdated and idiotic, but...it's the rules. What Richardson and her woke legion wanted is special treatment. The rule should be changed, but she shouldn't have been allowed to compete. I don' think there would've been a single tear shed over a white person facing the same situation.

Valieva also broke a rule, and she also, should not have been allowed to compete.

Fair is fair, and the IOC is completely corrupt.

It really is that simple.

Abide by the rules of the competition, or you are out. No exceptions.

She is competing in the grown up Olympics.

Exactly.

Then consider the reason why the arbitrator ruled she could compete at the last minute - because preventing her from competition would cause irreparable harm - actually caused irreparable harm in the competition.

Someone in figure skating should be banned from the sport.  In fairness, it probably should not be the skater because of her age.  She was probably told to take something, and being a child, she didn't know any better.  Then again, he admitted to taking two legal drugs for performance enhancement.

I am in youth sports, and even though I will never be close to the international stage, I have to take an anti-doping class every year as part of my coaching certification.  Is there nothing like this in Russia?  I get the impression that they don't give a sht about that there.  They're already in trouble as a nation for doping, which is why they have to compete as the ROC.

On another note, Johnny Wier and Tara Lipinski have been excellent commentators.  During normal figure skating, they are objective, pointing out flaws when they see them; provide good analysis that threads the needle of educating people who don't know the sport, while still being simple enough to understand; find a nice balance of friendly banter; and sometimes just stay quiet and let the people take in the competition, which is quite rare nowadays.

Don't hold your breath waiting for the Russians to stop cheating.

But the Ruskies are pals now. We love those borscht-swilling, commie sumanabishes.

Well, there is that.  But things could turn on a dime if it were actually Hillary in bed with them instead of Trump - heads gonna be spinning in both camps...

People who think either party is above this behavior are fooling themselves.

My belief is that the US has one party with two faces for marketing. The same swill is often marketed to both sides, just in different wrapping.

Maher flat out nails it here. He torches Eileen Goo, John Cena, and Lebron like they all deserve.

Yeah, he did and it was on-point.  Unfortunately, that came after him and the Nation editor were trying to make the case that we shouldn't be concerned with Russia taking more territory, which completely undercuts his point.

Man she was a whacko. I went on to her twitter feed for more of her craziness. It was like reading Abra and KZ's posts in one long stream of consciousness. The other guy on the panel was making really good points which Maher and the whacko were completely ignoring.

Yeah, she was awful.  It's hilarious how closely aligned nut-bags on the far left are with nut-bags on the right.  Maher let her have it when it came to the woke stuff, but for some insane reason, he was at least partially taking her side when it came to Russia.  I hate agreeing with a CNN talking head, but that dude was right but they just kept steamrolling him.

Exactly. The rhetoric from someone like Tucker and someone like Tulsi Gabbard on foreign policy issues is identical.

Eh...hitting LeBron and John Cena is lazy and pointless. Does anyone think John Cena decided to release that apology? Of course not -- Universal made him do it.

Don't crap on the easy targets -- blame Nike and Comcast, not LeBron and John Cena.

True, but Maher speaks to Hollywood in a way that he wouldn't speak to Nike or Comcast.  At the very least, he's publicly embarrassing the actors/athletes that bow to China in a forum that Hollywood actually pays attention to.

Again, I find it lazy. What's John Cena supposed to do? Tell Universal to screw off and never work again? Sounds great in principle, but pretty sure Hollywood will keep chugging along without the acting talents of John Cena. LeBron clearly has more power at Nike, but not nearly as much as someone else who can never be criticized.

The only way it can work with athletes or actors is if they all band together to pressure the parent companies. I just get annoyed by someone trying to dunk on easy targets that can't create actual change.
