Marcus Williams (Saints S) -- SIGNED WITH BALTIMORE

The safety position should be a main focus point this off season with the uncertainty around Harris and McLeod, who both can be gone this off season. Enter, Marcus Williams. Saints cap situation is horrible and I do not see them being able to manage that and keep Williams on the team. Williams is 25 and set for a big payday in FA. Eagles have the cap room and it fills a need for this defense. Great ball skills and would be a good fit in Gannon's system.

Helps with making the defense younger, adding flexibility in the draft, and solidifying a position that has been a weak point since Jenkins left. This is a home run signing but we will see how it plays out.

I would be thrilled. The Saints are about $50M oner the cap so matching a good offer is out of their range. Only problem is the Eagles only have $24M available and with that they have to re-sign Kelce ($7M?) sign their draft picks ($5M), and have a contingency fund for the season ($3M). That leave $9M for Howie to do his magic with.

I expect Howie to clear some cap in the next two weeks. Like restructering some contracts. In the end we’ll probably have about $ 35 to $ 40 million to play with.

Agreed Howie will kick the can down the road on a couple contracts like always and that will give us the opportunity to be big players in the Williams Sweepstakes

What's the estimate here in terms of salary... $16M+/yr?  Pretty steep, but if the defensive roster is topped off with draftees... workable.

That's really high end there... I'm not sure I'd want to pay that but Williams is really good and safety is a need.

Would have no complaints if we got Williams, but it’s a deep safety free agency class and for me we need to add a good WR to start and an adequate CB who can hold down CB2 until our inevitable first rounder is ready.

Agreed. If they plan on drafting a Safety fairly early then I'd be OK with them bringing back McLeod or Harris or a slightly cheaper option.

Safe to say we are out of the Marcus Williams sweepstakes. He is going to be the highest paid safety in football
