time2rock
NFL insider dishes on chances Eagles trade for Russell Wilson For all the Eagles fans clamoring for the team to make a seismic move to pick up a new franchise QB to replace Jalen Hurts for 2022, at least one NFL insider is preaching patience. ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter made his weekly appearance on The John Kincade Show on 97.5 The Fanatic Wednesday morning, and amid all the buzz surrounding the NFL Combine this week in Indianapolis, the conversation quickly turned to the Eagles’ interest in trading for Seahawks QB Russell Wilson. "I don’t view it as a likely scenario. I’ never going to rule anything out with the Eagles. That talk is out there, and continues to be out there. Do I think Russell Wilson will be the QB for the Eagles in 2022? I don’t think so.” Well, that let the air out of that balloon for hopeful Eagles fans who thought the team could parlay their three first-round picks (and likely more) for Wilson. It was a far-fetched thought to begin with; Wilson has a full no-trade clause, and the Seahawks aren’t openly shopping him. What about Plan B: perhaps using one or more of their first-rounders to select one of the quarterbacks in this year’s draft as the new face of the franchise? "No, I don’t believe that,” Schefter said. "I believe what’s more likely is that the Eagles will end up trading one of these [first round picks], maybe two of these ‘ones’ to further arm themselves in next year’s draft, when the quarterback crop is expected to be deeper and more talented than this year.” Seems like a prudent strategy. The 2022 QB Draft class – Matt Corral of Ole Miss, Kenny Pickett from Pittsburgh, and Liberty’s Malik Willis are currently the highest-rated – doesn’t feature a talent that is far and away better than what the Eagles currently have in-house. They could conceivably use two of their picks to address immediate needs, and dangle the third pick to a team looking to move up, gain a first-rounder for 2023, and go from there. But unless things change, it looks as though the Eagles are hitching their wagon to Hurts, at least for the season ahead. https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/eagles/russell-wilson-trade-eagles-jalen-hurts-nfl-rumors
UK_EaglesFan89
Going with Hurts is the right strategy for this team if they don't love any of the QBs in the draft. Trading for a veteran is a dumb move for this team because of the state of the roster.
time2rock
I sure hope Schefter's gut is spot on.
