Clowney was desirable last season when he was available dirt cheap on the trade market. Not so much this season when you have to pay him like a top pass rusher for the next few years.

That's the thing. He wants top pass rusher money. But the league knows he's not worth it. He'd be stupid not to come here on a 1yr deal. Playing on a stacked line like ours, plus the way we rotate our line, he will have great #s and not a lot of added mileage. Then next season can ask for the world.

Can't argue with that. Imagine what he could do alongside Hargrave/Jackson and Cox with BG the other end. He could possibly convince the league that he's worth a big contract.

I would rather see who gets cut June 1st before eagles use up all the cap room on Clowney

I guess he didn’t think much of the offer.

Because his hate for Wentz is stronger than his love for the eagles.

Wentz doesn’t seem to have a problem with Clowney.  He knows its just part of the game.

"That’s football. It was an unfortunate way to end the season for me personally, but I have respect for Jadeveon. He’s a heck of a player,” Wentz said last week. "I don’t think he had any ill will with that hit.”

That's what he said yeah. Whether he truly feels like the though? That's another matter.

You could say that about any quote from any athlete anywhere.  I’m taking it at face value.  These guys know the deal.  It’s a contact sport.

Which still have rules. He has gone straight for the head in 2 of our QB's. Almost broke Foles neck and gave Wentz a brain injury. I mean what more does he have to do to be the bad guy around here? Philly fans who we all know are the passionate in the game about their team are sort of like eh to this POS. Why? Are we that desperate to bring in a lazy mediocre 5-6 sack a season guy?

I think Eagles fans are open to anything that makes the team better.  This isn’t pro wrestling with good guys and bad guys and characters.  Is he worth $20 million a year? Of course not.  But a team friendly short term deal with the former #1 overall pick who is still only 27 and has 32 career sacks?  Why not?

With that said, a lot of these guys are going to sit on the open market until teams can bring them in for physicals.  Peters, Cam and lots of other UFAs are languishing.

Yes it is lol. Brady is probably the most polarizing loved/hated player in the league. We all roasted Romo hard. I hate Dak and Zeke. And they all didnt even try to decapitate 2 of our QB's.

Graham and Barnett have both had better numbers than him. I'm good with who we have.

Graham maybe but Barnett is urgently in need of a breakout year free from injuries.  And  obviously the two of them combined for the greatest defensive play in Eagles history, so there will always be goodwill.

I’m not making the case for Clowney but I can see why the Eagles are kicking the tires.

He just did that. Why would he do that a 2nd year in a row? He is looking for the big contract now.

Wasn't he on the franchise tag salary last year? Hardly 'team friendly'. Although the Texans, not Seattle paid most of it. Still, for whatever reason, he didn't get the big numbers. He may not have much choice this year, but to sign cheaper and play big. If our DTs are as good as we think, he could use them to get those numbers up.

It’s a waiting game. He’s trying to get as much as he can. At this point in time due to Covid19 there isn’t a point for any player Or team to rush anything. When facilities open up things will likely change, but I still doubt veterans like Jason Peters will sign until the very last moment he can. Clowney can request whatever he wants, but if the demand doesn’t meet his asking price then he has to lower his price if he wants to play football next season.

And I think ultimately that's what will happen. Eventually those demands will be lowered and at that point Howie may strike.

I stand where I have always stood about this guy...in a rotation like the Eagles ran during the Super Bowl year, Clowney could be a great piece. That is why I wanted him for the throwaway draft picks he was acquired for at the deadline. Eagles desperately needed pass rush but Howie in his infinite wisdom punted on the season from the GM perspective. F Howie.

However, unless Clowney settles for a 1 year deal now he can rot on the unemployment line. It would be foolish to commit to middling DE who cannot get to the QB enough (looking at you Graham & Barnett).

And I agree with this... The issue is how much is he going to get if we did bring him here to be a rotational DE...

Yeah I mean that finishes it. There is no way they get Clowney for less than $10M for the year. Some players, despite being a highly rated and talented guy, may go for a prove it deal on a potentially really good team... This dude is not one of them.

Reads more like an opinion on Caplan, not a true report.

I think there's a lot of that with Caplan. I think he talks a lot of sense but I'm very completely convinced by his "sources". Perhaps his source is the ticket office guy or the janitor. Perhaps they've heard things or seen things lying around in Howie's office.

He is always really surprised when the team makes an unexpected move and really full of it when things go exactly the way he says. I'm sure he has intel I'm just not sure how good that intel really is.

I don't know squat about Caplan. Or, pretty much any other reporter. I'm sure some have solid sources, but others exaggerate how good their source is.

Still, just reading that article, it seemed all opinion by Caplan, and he never referenced 'sources'. So who knows?

I've always thought Clowney was overrated. But, after reading some of the crying in this thread, I kinda hope they do sign him.
