But if it is a one year deal then there is no cap hit beyond 2020...

The amount he wants will put the Eagles virtually right up against the cap for 2020 with essentially no wiggle room. Seattle's in the same situation which is why they haven't signed him. It hurts the cap next year through rollover, and there's an uncertainty with the cap potentially even decreasing next year with the COVID situation.

Howie will find wiggle room if he wants it

The impact on the 2021 cap by paying much more to Clowney vs someone like Curry on a 1 year deal is that you now have significantly less leftover 2020 cap to roll over into next year.  But with Howie in charge of the cap I never worry about the cap regardless of current projection.

I’m with you in the cap stuff. Howie always figures this stuff out so I’m not concerned about the cap. The cap regarding Howie as a GM is by far the least of my concerns.

Feels like people have been crying over the cap for like 5 years and every time the Eagle manage around it and find more cap space. This holdover cap stuff only gets them like 8 mil or something anyways.

Yeah at this point... I don't think we need to worry about the cap with Howie.

Yup, just the draft.

Oh absolutely and that's a big freaking problem that one.

The weird thing is he does ok on day 3 picks. He just trys to be smarter than everyone else usually in first 2 rounds and it doesn't work.

However, I am really starting to grow on Reagor now...the more I look at him, the more I think he is a great fit for the Eagles. I like that pick at #21 a LOT! Can't wait to see what he brings to the table...

And if pick #53 was a player that could be really useful all season for us, then I would have said this was an A grade draft...there are some excellent picks from round 3 onwards, but the #53 pick drags my opinion of this draft from an A to a B-

Apart from the obvious curveball, I think this was a very good draft by Howie...

I loved this pick.  Reagor is a perfect fit for what the Eagles need on offense.

I'm curious to see how this draft pans out because it looked totally unprecedented based on what they have done in the past. Looks like they went after high ceiling, athletically explosive, hard working, good character guys. In the past they would go after similar characteristics but replace 'athletically explosive' with 'productive stats' and 'high ceiling' with 'high floor, low ceiling.'

Calling b.s. on this one...if they bring any DE in it probably will be Curry again.

He was good in his role last year. I wouldn't mind him back. I hope Sweat takes another step forward!

(As far as what Wentz, the recipient of that controversial hit, thinks of a possible Clowney deal, he addressed the topic late last week:

At the end of the day, I’ll trust Howie with that. That play happened, it is what it is. That’s football. It was an unfortunate way to end end season for me personally, but I have respect for Jadeveon, he’s a heck of a player.

I don’t think he had any ill will with that hit. That’s part of football. But he’s a heck of a player, so I trust Howie to make the right decisions to make our team the best we can be.“)

Hopefully this helps the fanboys move on from this hurting Carson’s feeling. The article as a whole feels like the Eagles are more concerned with winning than feelings as they should be. If they can make the numbers work then make it happen Howie!

Wentz gets it.  It's a contact sport and it is NOT illegal to drive a guy into the ground. These guys are professionals.  They rarely take it personally.

I'm still mind blown how many people want a Mediocre DE that went head hunting against TWO of our QBs, giving one a brain injury. You do realize all of you that are defending him and want him that he called you the worst fans in football right?

Didn't read through this whole thread but I'd imagine a number of people said it—this seems like nothing more than an agent "leak" to drive up the price for Seattle.

We can only hope that's the case.

He and Clowney do not have to be best friends in order for them to be teammates. The players seem to think the best move is to trust Howie. I actually like this thought process, because if things go wrong we know exactly who is responsible for that.

That says it all right there. Hey I don't care if the guy hands out threatening brain injuries just as long as we win! Wow..

Dude. A week ago you were crapping all over the Hurts pick because the Eagles didn’t need him. This is like the third time you’ve mentioned Wentz’s "threatening brain injury”.  Also, Brandon Graham’s strip sack sealed us the super bowl, so if  you’re gonna compare him to Cowney then so will I.....bring him on if he’s gonna contribute that much to a Super Bowl win!

I like Brandon Graham. He is a good talent with a great work ethic and is a great teammate. Clowney is POS who likes to take head shots. It speaks volumes that the POS is still unemployed. He has talent but he is known to take alot of plays off. Clowney should be miles above Graham because of natural talent but hes not. Oh and you are cool with the POS calling you ther worst fans in football? And what's your point about Wentz? Yep he suffered a Brain Injury because Clowney wanted to go head hunting.  He wasn't playing stupid or reckless.

Usually when report says the Eagle are trying to get or trade a certain player it is not true, so I am assuming this is just another example of that

I think so. No way is that POS coming here

Thank god they pulled through...

On a 1 year prove it deal?  Absolutely.
