Alcohol was made illegal and it led to organized crime, people making their own dangerous unregulated concoctions that were literally poison, smuggling, etc. Could the same type of things be caused by having prostitution illegal, just on a smaller scale?

It's a good possibility, just like banning cigarettes will cause absolute chaos. Sometimes cigarettes is all a junkie has to get them through a day till their next fix.
