March 16, 20223 yr Harvey Weinstein took advantage of a lot of women in his industry as well. Does that mean television and movies should be illegal?

Make prostitution legal and allow women who want to engage in the business to do so, just like producers that aren't abusing women are free to make movies. Prosecute the human traffickers who force women into the business the same way we did Weinstein. But allow those who freely choose to participate to do so.

That doesn't prevent guys like Weinstein from taking advantage of women who want to be Hollywood stars so again, not sure I understand the correlation.

The point was just because Weinstein is human scum, we didn't outlaw the entire movie business. We prosecuted the criminal. Just because some women are trafficked isn't a justification for denying the rights of those that would freely choose to participate. Focus on prosecuting the criminals.

And again, I find prostitution, strippers, etc repulsive personally. Doesn't change my views on how the laws should be written
March 16, 20223 yr or you guys could just get some game & not have to pay for it like a bunch of freaks.

Assuming prostitution was legal for a moment, a person "taking advantage" would also be prosecuted, the entire industry wouldn't just be made illegal, right?

And before anyone starts arguing with me that we are because most of us sell ourselves as part of a labor force - prostitution causes uniquely physical and emotional dangers that most professions do not… and I think it’s really hard for men to truly understand that from a female perspective.. the psychological damage. Maybe soldiers in active war would be the best comparison or argument for legalization. But I think most of us would agree that in a perfect world we wouldn’t need soldiers. I’m not sure why we would unnecessarily endorse this practice. 1 hour ago, we_gotta_believe said: Thankfully nobody is using strawman arguments in this thread. 46 minutes ago, we_gotta_believe said: I can't explain why there should be a middle ground between porn being illegal and being an avid porn consumer. All things in life must be an all or nothing proposition. You like to indulge with ice cream once in a while? Nope, either you think it should be illegal, or you're a fat tub of lard that eats it every day like a fourth meal. Do you enjoy marijuana from time to time? Nope, must be illegal, otherwise you're a pothead that tokes up every weekend without fail. Not sure where the hell I get off thinking that there's such a thing as moderation. Thanks for setting me straight on this. That sure as hell didn't take long

Now here is why prostitution is like drinking too much alcohol.

Also, this entire thread has been "women women women". The sex industry also employs male prostitutes, porn stars and strippers, I assume the only difference is they get paid less.
