3 Time Pro Bowl Guard Larry Warford was released. 28 years old.  Cap casualty.

Can he play LG?

Posted

I’d sign him - Brandon brooks has had issues with physical and mental injuries. I think he can play LG and then kick over to RG in a pinch should Brooks deal with another injury/anxiety attack...

Invest in OL, not Clowney.

I think he played LG for the lions. I may not be remembering correctly though. I would rather have him than Clowney. But we should pass on both, Pryor played great at guard when he got a chance last year making me think Brooks could be gone soon and we have a bit of a cap problem so signing either woukd hamstring us even more.

Rather sign Peters on a one year for cheap and see if he can play inside next to Dillard and continue to help him out. Worst case scenario we can move him to LT if Dillard struggles and put Seumalo back in at LG.

I wouldn't be opposed to bringing in Warford, especially since the timing of his cut post-draft would likely lower his price tag in free agency.

Moving Peters to guard would be an experiment considering he's been a LT his entire Eagles career and a bit risky. I'd rather bring in a natural guard in Warford if the plan is to bring in a veteran.

He does turn 29 in June though, so it's not like he's a long term solution but for the next 2-3 years he could be a very good starter for us.

Brooks literally just signed a contract to be the highest paid guard in football I doubt he is going anywhere in the next 2 years

I hope so. His anxiety problems are serious and I wasn't a fan of that contract for that reason. Give all that money to someone that can decide he doesn't feel good enough to play at anytime

Or if Lane goes down again he might be screwed. I agree bad contract. Tremendous player when right but it’s such a gamble.  Spotrac puts us with the potential out in 2022, 17.5 cap hit with basically 9 million dead cap so save 8.5 million. If Pryor is still here and the guys we drafted this year pan out we can be set with a cheap oline. Help give Howie some breathing room in the cap.

Yes I did take a look at that. I don't get into break downs of contracts to much but I was thinking in 2 years looked like the best to get out of it

Brooks and his anxiety are being overblown. I'm not suggesting anxiety/depression aren't an issue with people, they very much are, but aside from some freak injuries he's started every game for the Eagles for three seasons now and was in 14 of 16 his first season.

Injuries aside, he will be starting regularly. Anxiety be damned.

Yeah agreed. I don't think he's missed a game for a couple of years now due to anxiety? He's got it under control, or at least as much as is possible.

Can we afford him? Would he take a one year deal?

I don't think so (to both questions)

I think yes we can afford him and I'm not sure we have much choice.

he should compete with Pryor for the job, but no matter who wins, adding him creates depth.

I agree because long term Pryor winning that battle is best for us. If Pryor can be the long term RG then that's good news for this team.

I agree with both points. The team should not blindly give the starting RG job to Matt Pryor, but it would be nice if the Eagles can avoid having to use a high draft pick on an OL in 2021.

I think for us Pryor winning that job is absolutely best long term. That said, Brooks is coming back next year because his 2021 salary has already been guaranteed so what happens then? Pryor goes back to being the back up for another year or two? Even if he plays really well?
