I’m good with it… still need to draft one on day 1 or 2.

Harris is a good dude so I'm happy they brought him back...thought he played ok for us last season.

I don’t mind this but its a little bit underwhelming - hopefully it’s just a cheap backup option.

Harris is ok but if we were bringing back one of our safeties, I would have preferred McLoud.

And you still have Edmunds, Mattheau and Kearse out there, don’t get the rush for this move

You people crack me up ... Piss and moan about the cap situation, yet want all these free agents... Dipping into free agency and signing old players is why we are in this mess. Let them draft some talent for once instead of the constant band aids for a year or 2.

The better players that are available are going to want some security of a longer contract.

Average players = Average team. This is part of Howie's plan for free agency. Sign his own aging veterans and bring in other aging veterans.

I approve of this signing.

better then an overpaid 30 plus player but need a safety in the first 2 rounds

They had to retain one of the safeties and he's younger and cheaper.

They really need to draft a safety high.

The thing is, you don't want to have too many inexperienced pieces all at the same time. Think about our 2020 offensive line after all the injuries and shuffling. It was good that Mailata, Herbig, and Driscoll gained experience, but players like Matt Pryor really struggled a year after playing well on a couple appearances due to injury in 2019 --- when he was playing next to experienced players that year. All I'm saying is that you definitely need a balance in order to maximize the experience a player gains when his opportunity comes. Vets also bring leadership and help the younger players learn in practice.

Anyway, it's not like we committed much to keep Harris. If we draft (or bring in) someone that can challenge him, all the better.

I agree but, I'm just simply stating that we don't need to sign every big name or multiple guys just to say we did well in free agency. A couple of pieces for both sides of the ball is fine.

Yay?

One a side note the Phillies aren’t playing this year. They just added over 60 home runs to their lineup.

I don't mind it. Harris isn't great but he's not terrible and he knows the scheme so I really don't mind it. He's cheap and we had to do something at S ahead of the draft.

Positives - He's better than anyone they currently have on the roster. At least it was cheap.

Negatives - If they were going this route it should have been Rodney. If Harris and Epps are the starting Safeties that is simply not good enough.

At this point it looks that will be the case.  Can only hope we use a day 2 pick on a safety (highly doubt we draft one on day 1, even with 3 picks).  They can start that duo you mentioned initially and work the draft pick in more as the season progresses.  Best case scenario is the rook is able to secure the starting spot by mid season moving Epps back to #3.

Harris should be the team's 2nd best safety and Epps 3rd. Not only that, if all things remain equal they basically need to draft a S in the 1st or 2nd round. It's not a recipe for success.
