So with all the offensive talent mostly gone now why do this now?

So in 2023 Slay is 26 mill against the cap or 21 mill dead money if released. I guess he can sign him to an extension last year and kick the can again. oh well, we just need to nail this draft in at least rounds 1&2 similar to last year.

Funny... this is what many of the filthy rich do for a lifetime while their tax free unrealized gains from assets go untouched passed from generation to generation. Howie has been following this paradigm for years now. Some may actually consider it.... smart?

It isn't smart when you have an average roster and you kick the can on ageing players because in the end that's what limits you.

Not so sure the credit card analogy works since the cap keeps increasing. Future cap dollars are a smaller percentage of the cap so it is a cap saving measure if done right. As long as the player is expected to be productive through the pushed out years, it's not so bad. Managing cap is something I do trust Howie with so I'm not going to sweat it.

It isn't that he doesn't do a good job with the cap... I just think it is overstated a little bit really.

COLA for inflation should result in a massive salary cap increase I would think.

I thought there was something bigger in the wind that the Pascal signing. They still need a safety so I hope Howie uses some of the cash to grab one of the guys still out there.

Feels like Slay wouldn’t do this move unless he thought it could get him some help in the secondary. We will see.

I'm curious to see what he does with it.  It's very possible that this is a "cap move" to free up space just in case ( I.E., if some malcontent on another team wants out in October and we can strike an equitable deal, the funds are available), otherwise just roll it back over to next year.
