OFFICIAL: Eagles Sign WR Zach Pascal (1 Year)

We need size at the position, and Pascal seems to offer some.

Why are you so sure Watkins isn't a #2? He made a huge jump last year. The big transition Watkins needs to make in year 3 is for Hurts to get him the ball.

It's pretty short-sighted to look at film of Watkins last year (whether he was targeted or not) and flat out claim he's not a #2. Watkins is a guy that has talent and has also put in the work to get better and those two things are coming together with his play on the field.

I don’t think anyone can be sure of anything with Watkins.  I’d say that he’s not going to be an involved, productive WR with Hurts at qb.  Hurts can’t throw a deep ball.  He takes Watkins out of the game.  He also doesn’t have the field vision or diversity of throwing ability to meaningfully involve more than his top 2 targets in the offense.

That’s a valid excuse for Watkins, but a valid excuse also doesn’t make him a #2 wr worth building around.

It just means I’d probably defer any more investment in the WR position until we get a real qb who throws the football.

That’s a very 1980 way of looking at the wr position.

That's a very 2022 way of thinking about the position that can ultimately make your receiving corps one-dimensional. You need both size and speed at the position. We have a decent amount of speed but are pretty lacking in the size department. Pascal projects as a nice RZ option.

It kind of reminds me of Greg Lewis. Pacal is not a superstar, not incredibly talented physically. But he will work hard, blocks well, might make some contested catches, and plays special teams. He seems smart to the game. A good locker room guy.

Do we know the contract numbers yet?

I understand there's such a thing as coach-speak, but in this case, I think Sirianni is being honest. The film review both validates what he said and, unfortunately, what you said regarding Hurts (last year). Watkins is adapt at getting open and is a legitimate deep threat. You and I differ on whether or not Hurts can improve that part of his game. But for Watkins to really get noticed for the player he is developing into, he needs the QB to look his way.  It's one thing when it happens to a receiver that struggles to create space, but Watkins excels at this.

I don't feel we need to use a day 1 pick on a WR or break the bank on a vet from free agency or a trade. I would have liked to see us bring in a decent priced vet that can share experience with the younger guys. Pascal isn't really that guy, but he is a Sirianni guy. I think he'll help the team. Our WR success in 2022, though, will likely have more to do with Hurts than anything else. He needs to see things better and sooner and pull the trigger sooner. We have more than one guy routinely getting open.

Yeah - and can add some veteran insight to the younger WRs.

He's the Jalen Hurts of wide receivers.  Hurts can't throw and he can't get open and catch...............bUT hE cAn BLock!!!!!!

Perfect fit.

Details of the contract have been revealed, with Pascal’s deal being worth $1.5M guaranteed:

  • One year, $1.5M guaranteed
  • Signing bonus: $465K
  • Base salary: $1.035K
  • Up to another $1M in incentives

Approved.

Solid player. If Ray Diddy likes him, he must have some talent that can add value to the team.

So that’s a minimum salary deal, with a $465k bonus, plus some incentives.  It would be hard to sign a 27 year old free agent who started the previous three seasons for less than that.

Zach reminds me of Jason Avant. That's a good thing.

We had one ex colt that had a good year here. Hopefully Pascal can be another one.

I remember him as the guy not many on tate were impressed with the acquisition. Dubbed a journeyman. Had a horrible pre season. Was probably our best secondary player outside of Jenkins.

Most players we picked up were not thought well of lol. They wanted Blount cut too

450 yds 2 TDs, 3rd most receptions on the team after Smith and Goedert.  4th in yards after Smith, Goedert, Watkins.

Write it down in pen.

Seems like a solid prediction.

I also forgot he spent a year in SD and then a year in Indy after his first stint in NO before coming here.
