California bill would let parents sue social media companies for addicting kids

God forbid the parents do some parenting.

Yup, my niece and nephew won't eat dinner unless they get to play on their tablets... They are allowed too, because my sister says it's better then listening to them whine about it. Then I get yelled at when I say she is doing a sheety job of parenting lol.

Pretty much the same with my brother and his kids. It's pathetic. What's really bad is the one is severely autistic and it's being exacerbated by them letting him live his life staring at a screen. He's 8 years old and can barely talk. He'd have troubles in any case, but I think the tablet is definitely making the nonverbal aspect worse. It like literally short-circuits these kid's brains.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting something here but this seems like a different issue/law?  This law seems like it's aimed at making predictive social media algorithm's more transparent and allowing medical disinformation promoted on social media as being eligible for discipline from the state medical board.  Which seems a lot more reasonable than letting parents sue because they gave their **** kid an iPad at age 2 instead of interacting with them.

I was just going to ask if I could sue the parents for creating social media addicted humans.

She is doing a sheety job of parenting her fashion accessories.

On the other hand she's doing a damn fine job of raising a new generation of entitled brats.

This.

How about YOU take control of your children? Sure, it is easier to plop them in front of screens than actually spend time and parent, but that is YOUR choice, parents.

I’m unsure about the forced disclosure of algorithms, but here we have the California Constitution.

”Being responsible for the abuse of that liberty…”

I think there’s clearly cases of certain people being subject of verbal or written abuses.  But you can’t make a law that predetermines what is ‘an abuse.’

Giving the medical board this power to determine the abuses I think is dangerous.  Only a Jury or at least a revolving panel of lay people should get to decide, and only on a case by case basis.  Giving the medical board this power will only lead to dangerous group think, which is a problem in novel situations like the recent pandemic.A6D9DE10-DD39-4DF6-B786-0EA331AA7D9F.thumb.jpeg.d3cfdff2f6c87ba95ee83600c6a44295.jpeg
