Posted April 1, 20223 yr Eagles Free agency Eagles sign CB Joe Haden - 1 year 4 million. Haden is declining, but he is still a solid zone corner who could fit in Gannon's scheme. Maybe the Eagles know something we don't about McPherson, but we need a CB2 to hold the fort. If we draft a rookie and he beats Haden out, then great. Eagles sign Tyrann Mathieu - 3 years 35 million - 20 million guaranteed. This can be structured so it's a minimal cap hit this year. I think the Eagles have another big move in them. I think it could also be Landry or a Parker trade, but WR's seem to have inflated value on the market this year, so we get an out and out playmaker that will hopefully encourage Gannon to be more aggressive. For me CB and S are where we really need a starter. WR is weak, but Watkins and Pascal can at least be functional number 2s. Trade Eagles trade Andre Dillard to Carolina for a 2023 third round pick. Carolina needs a LT, but desperately wants to pick a QB at 6. This solves their issues to a degree and gives the Eagles decent value on Dillard. Draft Trade! Eagles trade pick 15 and pick 83 to the Commanders for pick 11. Pick 11 - Derek Stingley JR - CB - Eagles have been burnt before with injury prone players, but Stingley's talent is just too much to pass up. Trade! Eagles trade pick 16 to Buffalo Bills for pick 25, pick 89 and a second rounder in 2023. Bills are desperate for a corner and they are flying off the board. Eagles don't have to move back too far and get their lost third rounder back along with more ammunition for 2023. Pick 19 - Treylon Burks - WR - Yes another first round WR, but Burks should be the perfect compliment to Smith and Watkins and allow Pascal to slide to WR4. Pick 25 - Devonte Wyatt - DT - Davis is getting the headlines, but Wyatt is the kind of DT the Eagles like who can attack the QB. Good value here. And you didn't think the Eagles would have three firsts and not address the line? Trade ! Eagles trade 53, 162 and Eagles 2023 third to Houston for pick 43. Pick 43 - David Ojabo - DE - The Derek Barnett signing means we don't need a DE immediately. We can take our time with Ojabo and he can replace either Graham or Barnett in the rotation next year. Eagles finally have some real young talent on D. Pick 89 - Nick Cross - S - Can get reps in a rotation and learn behind Mathieu and Harris. Make teams pay for passing over the middle. Pick 124 - Jaylen Wydermyer - TE - Tested badly but the tape tells another story. TE is a sneaky need as we have little behind Goedert. Wydermyer gives the O another weapon. Pick 154 - Brian Robinson JR - RB - Good RBs have dropped before and the Eagles don't wait to snap up Robinson here. Natural replacement for Jordan Howard. Pick 166 - Jamaree Sayler - G - time to give the best OL coach in the league another project. Limited upside, but can play all along the line and can turn into a quality back-up/fringe starter. Pick 194 - Max Mitchell - OT - Another guy who can play across the line. Has the kind of attitude Philly loves despite some athletic limitations.
April 2, 20223 yr I love almost everything about your mock but I just don’t know why you a) want to sign Haden (old and on the downside of his career), b) sign Mathieu to a lucrative deal (decline has already started a bit in KC IMO) and c) traded up for Stingley. Look...I like Stingley and like last year with Chase, he’s a bit of a mystery. Showed elite traits during the 2019 season, took a step back in 2020 and hardly played last year. The big question is; will the real Stingley step forward. Still this might just be the best mock I’ve seen all year. Fills about every hole with a player I really like. Stingley, Burks, Wyatt and Ojabo in the first two rounds? Pure awesomeness! Super awesome job!
April 2, 20223 yr I can see what you're doing here bud I really can. I actually like the trade up to get Stingley and the signing of Haden. Most rookie CBs need time to find their way in the NFL so it'll be good to let him sit behind an experienced guy. But the Mathieu signing? That is just too much money for a 30 year old on a team that's not going to be a contender next year and possibly not the year after. Love Stingley, Burks and Wyatt in the first though.

I guess my feeling was that the Eagles need to make another fairly sizeable move and the WR market seems crazy, so Landry/Parker in a trade may be too expensive. I think the Eagles could be competitive this year if Hurts takes a big step up. He probably won't but you never know. Maybe in my final mock/offseason I'll remove Mathieu or cheapen the contract. UK has it right on Haden. Just a stop gap to learn from. It's a great corner draft and I think we will come away with one in the first two rounds, but I hate the idea of a rookie being forced to start by default if they are not ready. Maybe the Eagles have seen enough of McPherson in practice to think he could hold down CB2, but I'm not convinced. A multi year deal for someone like Nelson would block our probably rookie.

I know what you mean about making a splash. And hey if you sit on the side that says this team can be competitive then yeah sure that would be a good move. I just don't think this team is ready to take that next step and so on that basis I'd hold off and roll the cap. But I can see why you think otherwise bud.

I do also wonder if McPherson is better than we know. in his limited snaps last year he was good in coverage (52.9%, 5.6y/t, 69.7 Rating but 4 missed tackles (20%)) But Stingley would be unreal. Unlike some of the other posters i like the idea of Mathieu signing, ya he may be declining some potentially, or maybe it was a result of the KC D not being that great around him. Either way the fact is we could do with atleast 1 better safety than either Epps or Harris. and if the intent is to only target S in the 3rd with Cross, he could do with some time to develop. Maybe take over Epps at S3 or eventually Harris at S2. and then it'll not force us to target 2 safeties again next year as well.
April 2, 20223 yr wanted to add im not sure if id go with Ojabo anymore. tbf i was never very high on him cause im a little sus on guys that are ultra raw and new to football and mostly drafted based on athletic profile rather than technical skill set. But add on that he just tore his achilles, if his game wasnt based so much on his explosiveness i could maybe over look it; but this injury could be pretty significant for a guy who's potential current is banking on his athleticism.
April 2, 20223 yr Kind of like taking an Alabama RB behind the best offensive line, I'm a little scared of taking a Georgia DL thats not the physical specimen of Davis, since none of them could be consistently double teamed.

April 4, 20223 yr Love the draft and the players you took. I’d rather stay put than trade up but wouldn’t be mad with a young corner with a ton of upside. I’m not a huge fan of signing older starters at this point. These guys won’t do anything except land us a middle round draft pick and not allow us to see our young guys develop. With multiple firsts in 2023 now too we can embrace the rebuild and get our young guys valuable snaps.

Thanks guys. I guess on the older players, I am of the view that it's important to build a winning environment and it's easier for the younger guys to come in and perform if they have some good veterans to play with. The jury is still out on Hurts, but he never really stood a chance against the better QBs, because the D was giving up 80% completion and couldn't get off the field. I'm still of the view Mathieu and Haden etc could help, at least on a short term basis. As always there is a balance, but I don't think a couple of vets on short term contracts would cause a major issue. New mock coming in a couple of weeks. Let's see how free agency and the trades evolve in the mean time!
