If the Saints go on a run and we end up with a 25th pick or later the trade is not that great. There are so many unknowns it's hard to know if this was good or not. It will be a lot easier to tell a year from now. At least then you know what pick you got and what player you could have picked if you had stayed put. If the Saints pick is #25 next year it’s still a great trade. Also, the chance of the Saints picking 25th or later is probably around 15%. Plus, a 3rd rounder in this year’s draft is the most valuable 3rd round pick in my memory.

April 5, 20223 yr And it’s the pick from the Wentz trade. So if you want to play the follow the picks game, Wentz and a 6th got us back a 1st, 2nd two 3rds and a 7th

April 5, 20223 yr After this past off season seeing the draft pick trades for Desaun Watson, Russell Wilson, Tyreek Hill, Devante Adams… how has no one predicted the disgruntled Kyler Murray to the Eagles in 2023 for 2-1st rounders and 2-2nd rounders… 😬😬😬

April 5, 20223 yr Walter Football: Saints acquire two 1st-round picks (16, 19) and 6th-round pick (194) from Eagles for 1st-round pick (18), 3rd-round pick (101), 7th-round pick (237), 2023 1st-round pick, 2024 2nd-round pick For the second year in a row, the Eagles made a blockbuster trade prior to the draft to acquire more draft capital in the future. They obtained a future first-round pick for moving down from No. 6 to 12, and they've done so yet again, receiving a first-rounder from the Saints in the 2023 NFL Draft for giving up one of their three opening-round choices. This is a great trade for the Eagles for two reasons. One, the 2022 NFL Draft class is underwhelming. As Charlie Campbell reported during the Senior Bowl, "In speaking to scouts from around the league, this year's draft lacks clear-cut high-end talent for the first round. Scouts do not have prospects graded out as high as those in last year's elite group like Kyle Pitts, Ja'Marr Chase and Penei Sewell." The Eagles were not going to obtain anything resembling a blue-chip prospect; even if they traded up into the top 10. Thus, it makes more sense to obtain draft capital for next year. The 2023 NFL Draft class is packed with more talent, especially at quarterback. The Eagles might even be in a position to land one of the top signal-callers next April. Check out my 2023 NFL Mock Draft for more info. The second reason why I love this move for Philadelphia is that the Saints' draft choice could be very high. New Orleans is not a good team by any means. It has the potential to reach the playoffs, but that is New Orleans' ceiling. Its floor, now that both Drew Brees and Sean Payton are gone, is probably a 4-13 record. The Eagles may have just obtained the fifth- or sixth-overall choice in a much better draft class. Plus, they also get two extra second-round choices! As for the Saints, I have no idea what they're doing. With the consensus being that this draft class is weak, why would they want more picks this April? Also, giving away their first-rounder, when it could be used on a potential franchise quarterback, could cripple the franchise. I don't understand New Orleans' plan at all. Grade for Saints - D Grade for Eagles - A+

April 5, 20223 yr 2 hours ago, time2rock said: Ditto. It’s not just that, you might have plenty of teams like the Falcons, Texans, Lions, and Panthers who’ll wait till next years draft. The Dolphins put Tua on a one year notice, they have 2 first round picks next year, so do the Texans and the Seahawks. Will Anderson goes number 1 next season unless a QB like Lawrence is coming out, he makes most of the pass rushers in this draft look like 2nd round picks. Dude is Derrick Thomas reincarnated.
April 5, 20223 yr The biggest thing that makes this a great trade is that the Eagles desperately needed to move capital into next year. Doing that and getting a premium for it is nothing short of exemplary. I wouldn't mind another trade down, need as much capital as possible to make a run at Stroud.

April 5, 20223 yr At first I was like Noooooooo, but then realized after the thought of losing first round picks for multiple future picks… we still have two this year and will have two next year along with some good value the year after that. Anyone else feel after reading this news for the first time that we walked away with only one pick in the first round this year? Lol I still think Howie is gonna do some more on draft day to get lower in the first.
April 5, 20223 yr The people that think Howie is the worst drafter in history should be happy. Compiling more picks means there is less pressure to hit on every pick.

Again we have to wink at each other while telling non-Eagles fans we're just analyzing Hurts to see if can progress beyond his "basically rookie" season, as if any rational fan doesnt already know hes a career backup. I refuse to budge on this , I dont think I can pretend again for a whole year. Someone will find out I kinda feel ya here but we still have 2 first round picks. 10 teams hold like 66% of the first round picks and were one of them. No way we’re going to pick 3 in the first this year. But I do see your point on Hurts. He’s a great athlete at baseline but let’s be honest he isn’t gonna start throwing deeper passes because he’s year three. If his accuracy doesn’t improve on his passes it won’t matter what studs we have catching the ball. We all saw what the Bucs did to his confidence and abilities to pass the ball when it mattered.

First round rookies are still rookies. Giving up one 1st this year to push forward another year is a good idea for a franchise that has a lot of short term & long term needs that still will have no business competing with most AFC teams or the Rams/Packers/Bucs/Dallas.
April 5, 20223 yr Now imagine if Howie trades pick 18th with a team for a first and 2nd and possibly more for 2023 on draft day. So Eagles will have 3 x 1st rounders, 2 x 2nd rounders for 2023 If Hurts Crashes, that's some serious ammo for 2023 trade up on a draft that has some very good signal callers... lol....
April 5, 20223 yr Saints sure look like a franchise heading in the wrong direction. The team is poorly situated cap wise, had a significant roster purge this offseason, has a tough schedule next season, and is coached by Dennis Allen who posted two 4-12 seasons with the Raiders before being let go in the middle of his third season starting off 0-4. I think we may be seeing a revival of the Ain'ts
April 5, 20223 yr It’s insane GMs still make deals with Howie considering how he’s considered one of the least trustworthy guys out there. Kind of crazy how teams have been dumping so much salary and assets into acquiring players this off-season. Howie basically has made it feel like they gave up their great player for a bunch of picks, and that’s not even close to the case. Everyone is trashing the Saints right now.
April 5, 20223 yr On a side note, clicking on the link to Walter Football's mock (it's for 2023, but find the link on that page to the 2022 mock dated today 4-4) by Charlie Campbell clearly shows he knows very little about the Eagles FO and MO when it comes to drafting. With pick #15 he has us taking LB Dean with DT/NT Davis still on the board. Moron. What decade did we last draft a LB in Round 1? What century was it? This FO doesn't leave a DL player like Davis on the board to go LB. Ever. Then at #18 he has us taking WR Williams, who apparently is so good that he gets drafted again just 4 picks later by NE. Not kidding. As of this post Williams is drafted twice just 4 spots later. I'm sure that error will be corrected at some point, but how does he miss that? At #51 he has us taking DE Paschal so we can convert him to a DT to replace Cox with DT Jones still on the board who many here believe have the Eagles logo stamped on his forehead. BTW, DEs still on the board at #51: Thomas, Carter, Ojabo, and Mafe. At #83 he has us taking RB Spiller. Yes, we need to add a younger Howard to our RB mix, so this isn't that far fetched, though I'd be surprised if they went RB before Day 3. For pick #101 he has us taking QB Ridder. I guess he doesn't understand why the Eagles made this trade to gain more draft capital for the 2023 draft. This trade pretty much cemented that they're rolling with Hurts in 2022 and it's his sink or swim season and they're ready to go all-in on a QB in 2023 hoping there will be more quality than this draft. The Eagles haven't been reported to show much interest in Ridder and while they've done the smoke screen thing with other positions, QB is not the position they keep their distance and don't do their full homework on. If they were at all interested in Ridder then somewhere someone would have heard about it and reported it unless they snuck him in NovaCare the way the CIA sneaks people into their black sites. For the final pick (only did up to the 4th Round) at #124 we're drafting LSU OT Austin Deculus. Who? Never heard of him. Two other sites that do draft scouting reports grade him as a 7th Rounder/UDFA pick. But good 'ol Charlie has us taking him in the 4th because we need OT depth. This guy might talk to scouts to help get an idea where players might rank, but he either just doesn't know or take into consideration how certain teams' FOs/GMs do business and he's done that here with the Eagles. This draft would suck for us.
