Eagles thought Barnett, Reagor and Watkins was worth drafting in the first.

What’s your point?  That there aren’t any sure things with the NFL draft?  Ok.  Point taken.

I thought the Miami trade was a good gamble, so it didn’t turn out the way we thought.  Kinda like drafting a guy in the first….and not turning out the way you thought.

Just responding to a post where someone said the Saints are going to suck. Just saying don’t count your chickens. Had nothing to do with drafting.

Right now, salary cap be damned, i wish we had 3 picks in round 1.

Next year, I will be glad that we have another pick in round 1.

That 1st round pick deferred to next year means that we haven't done everything that we possibly could do to win this year.

I'm not sure that the Eagles wanna win this year. Maybe next year. See what I'm saying?

I never had a problem with the pick. Just sucks Reagor is stupid like everyone else Philly takes on their teams

There have been so many red flags when it came to Reagor. The poor combine running, and his coach kind of giving him a negative review. Just seemed like Howie got real tunnel vision on the player. Anyway this is year three for Reagor. Does he come out ready to play or will he be the floundering mess he was last season. Concerning they didn’t really address the receiver situation yet. I was hoping they would’ve done something by now.

They did try a couple of upgrades that didn't work out. So now I'm thinking they plan on taking another one early. Which imo would be ridiculous, only because again they should not have to be doing this! Or they think Reagor will be ready and I don't think they are relying on that but, if they are..... Oh Lord help us lol.

Draft picks don't automatically translate into winning the immediate year. Besides, normally you have only one pick in each round. Having 3 picks is unusual.

But they have 2 picks in the 1st round still, which is still more than usual.

The draft isn't about reaching for needs to play the current season only. It's about building a roster of the best players available. Sometimes that is an immediate need for a day 1 starter. Sometimes that is thinking ahead,  for example if they draft a DT high who might sit behind Cox & Hargrave then start the following year. If you think that DT will be your future, you grab him instead of another position who overall might not be as great a player.

Reagor in any significant position on this team will be a big mistake if he doesn’t earn his way on the field. He doesn’t deserve his position. He doesn’t even deserve to be a return man.

He doesn't deserve to be return man's back up!

i like the trade, but it all comes down to who howie chooses with the picks they have. i for one am not 100% comfortable with him making those choices, but he's here and he is making the picks. i'll save my angst if he F's up the picks.

You have to hope that he and Lurie are recognizing the amount of questions they get about his drafting, even the announcers on TV more than once have called out his drafting.  Last year they took a safer smart choice in DeVonta Smith which was an easier call at that spot.  He's been bad past #20 so hopefully one of these picks turns out to be a difference maker, they are really in need of that especially on defense.  A solid lineman is nice, but can be had in mid to late rounds.  What they really need is a star player.

yes, a playmaker or possibly two on defense would be nice. like you i am hoping they have evaluated themselves and see what others see. get this draft right and the prior draft failings start to fade from memory.

I'll take Floundering Mess and the under.

Here’s a great article on the trade.  I think it sums up some of the points we’ve been trying to make here:

Yes, I've said all along that it would have been difficult cap wise to squeeze three 1st rd picks into the cap considering our current cap situation (but great point that it would have made it especially difficult when attempting to exercise 5th year options on 3, assuming all of them would have proven worthy of that ... not a safe assumption).

They gave it to Barnett and brought him back for two more years. They’d give it all three picks.

No. Stay on the couch.

"I wish we sign every marquise free agent available this year. But the salary cap wouldn't let us." Sounds pretty stupid, huh?

If 2022 is the last year NFL football will ever be played, then your thought process is absolutely correct.

Yup. By his line of thinking, I guess we should just trade away every future pick that we have just to field the very best team we could possibly have in 2022. That would show the world that we are really serious about competing.

Mike McCormack tried that strategy and it was disastrous.

Not sure if this has been posted, but the rumor mill has the Saints making one more move so they can get higher up in the draft, as they will be going for a  QB.

Seemed like the most likely path. Yes some people said they might think they will be really good so next years first will be bad and they grab two good players now but usually trades this big are about drafting a QB.

Let’s all hope they do draft a rookie QB, should really help our first next year.

Hope so too but I think the Saints won’t take a QB and instead target a WR (Williams or Olave) and OT (Cross or Penning) with picks 16 and 19.

I do think that they believe they’re better than most think they are. Winston was pretty good before getting injured and defense carried them the rest of the way. They might think they’re just a couple of pieces away from competing for a division title and I can’t fault them. They were able to beat both the Packers and the Bucs and missed the play-offs by a hair.

yeah i don’t think they made this move to trade up for a qb if one gets close to them they like maybe they make a small move but i think they want two players like you say.. if they can keep winston healthy and don’t lose kamera to suspension with thomas coming back the offense should be good enough to allow them to compete for the playoffs.

That is a good article - thanks for posting.  I'll supplement that with this one that discussing Value Charts - the Jimmy Johnson chart and the Bill Belichick chart.  In both cases, the Eagles "won" this trade.
