So we basically traded

16 for 18 and a 7th

And then 19 for a 3rd this year, 1st next year and 2nd in 2024

I think I would prefer we kept 19....

3 1st rounders is over kill. Howie has set up the team for this draft and the next 2 very nicely. I like it a lot.

This trade was really smart IMO. Hurts has a year where he comes in knowing he is the guy. Should be a somewhat normal camp. I'm not a believer in him, but I'm not rooting against him either. This QB class is weak.

Saint could potentially be really bad. If Hurts can't show he is they guy, we could have a top 5 pick and maybe grab a good QB.

If what I would perceive to be a miracle happens, and Hurts completely balls out, even better.

The only reason I don’t believe the Saints can be "really bad” is because the Panthers and Falcons are in their division.

Other than that, I completely agree with your assessment.

That 3rd will probably be burned moving up and I have no problem with it.

Crap, that is true.

I still think the potential for them to suck is there. Every trade is a gamble. You try and manage odds.

You're so worried about the trade.  You should be more concerned about world affairs like the Russia Ukraine conflict and various trolling attempts on the CVON thread

We still have some trade chip players too such as Dillard and Minshew.

Actually, the potential for suckage for the Saints sans Sean Payton or Drew Brees is a pretty good gamble if you ask me.  AND that extra second round pick in 2024?  Icing on the cake.

Seems I was twice as fast as you. As usual, AFloridaMan. For a guy of your age to try this hard at this is pretty sad. You need a hobby, or maybe try and reconnect with those loved ones that gave up on your pathetic a**.

We'll see the draft, but essentially he gave them a first for 3rd this year, a 1st next year and a 2nd the year after that. (2024)

(I'm keeping your math on the 16 for 18th + 7th)

I don't like this trade.

With either of the 3 first round picks, there was a chance that a team would give up a first next year and also a pick in the 30s. Give me a late first/early second round pick + a 2023 first rounder over what they got in this trade.

Good trade with good return.  Gives flexibility in the next 2 drafts as well with additional high picks to trade up if needed or just extra chances to hit on talent.

Now Howie needs to make GREAT selections.  Not just role players or JAGs or a decent starter.  If you're going to silence the haters and have an answer for criticism, you're on the clock...

Yup. We actually have the ammo to make a trade for a player or to move up this year, and still have "normal" draft class and the extra picks going forward.

They get a 2nd and a 3rd for moving the first to next year. I doubt the Saints will be better than the 16th pick, but they could be. Either way, it's worth it.

Yeah. Howie really needs to nail a draft, in my mind anyway.

Dude, this makes more sense. For starters a team in the late 20s/early 30s is going to be a better team than the Saints next year. Add a 3rd that lets them move up a bit from 15 free of charge and a 2nd in a few years it's a smart trade.

The good news is that it’s all upside. The Saints will probably draft around 15th, but the chance of them having the 8th  pick is so much greater than the 22nd.

#8, #14, 2023 2nd rounder, and 2024 1st rounder can get a deal done with anyone who doesn’t need a QB.

We have to root for Jacksonville to stay terrible or ATL/CAR to draft Willis/Pickett.

Yeah that's fair. I find it hard to completely bury him because he did make moves that led to a ring. That's worth a lot to me.

Seems he is good at this part of his job, he needs to hit on the other part.

The 9 Best Colanders of 2022

Saints could be bad this year. Could be high 1st rounder

Howie setting up to draft a qb next year.  The "we're all-in on Hurts" talk was always nonsense.

Love this but trading has always been a strength of Howie. Drafting has always been the issue

Go back to CVON and defend Russians. I'm not gonna say you are better at that (because you suck at pretty much everything) but it will bother less people over there.
