Yeah not getting Gilmore was good but Howie's offseason efforts seem very confused.

He talks about not blocking snaps for their rookie class but then goes after older FAs. It doesn't quite add up.

And signing Cox to a 14mil deal yet saying they aren't all in. Why bother signing Cox and using the space then?

Precisely. The Cox deal makes no sense because actually it does block guys. It blocks a few options especially if they take a DT in the draft which I think they've almost got to at some point.

Agreed.  I would have just released him and used that money to sweeten the deal to Marcus Williams.

And that would be part of a true rebuild which is what this team needs.

Can't start a true rebuild without knowing the QB going forward. We don't know what kind of QB to build around as of right now.

Besides there is no such thing as a top to bottom rebuild anymore. Teams are turning it around in year 2-3 of a " rebuild" .

In the last 20 yrs or so this team has not really taken more than 2 seasons to turn back into contenders. If they would draft better they wouldn't have to keep turning the roster over and then the " rebuild" would last longer then it has been

If you want full on rebuilds then you get teams like the lions and jaguars. Forever rebuilding, no thanks.

QB is the biggest thing to figure out for any NFL team but not knowing who your QB is has no impact on prioritizing a young, playmaking S over an aging vet clearly on the decline.

Wasn't completely about the QB. I'm simply saying there are no true rebuilds and they aren't going to get rid of certain players just so they can please people's idea of a rebuild.

I agree with your thoughts on a "rebuild" these days.  I think of it as more of a philosophy ... are you going to continue to invest resources (draft picks, cap space, etc.) in overpriced, aging vets?  Or allocate those resources to younger playmakers that can potentially be a part of the team for the foreseeable future.  I think at this time we need to focus on the latter.

Guessing that in most of the cases where these players we were reportedly "in" on who chose to sign elsewhere, we didn't offer as much as those teams.  We are limited with what we can do due to the cap situation (unless we structure deals where there is minimal cap hit in 2022 but then balloons in future years and also dummy years added on the back end to spread out the prorated bonus, which is a strategy that stinks for future caps and would have most grumbling about).

I personally am tired of having to add overpriced aging vets to fill holes.  If we were a starting CB away from being legitimately competitive then OK sure, but we are much further away than that, so I'm happy we didn't land him.  Howie just needs to (1) prioritize CB next week and (2) hit on who he takes.

The Eagles aren’t doing much better considering they’re adding their own over priced players in Cox and Barnett.

I would have allocated that cap money elsewhere and used it on younger playmakers that could potentially be here for the foreseeable future.  Neither of those guys fit that description.

It’s been a weird off-season, other than Reddick it’s almost like they are striving for mediocrity.  Pascal, Allen, bringing Cox back for $14 million, Barnett back, Anthony Smith back?  What’s with the 30 plus yr olds on a rebuilding team?  I like Mathieu but why even entertain it and spend $25-30 on one player that won’t be here when they’re ready to compete.  I like the White signing but really, a one year prove it deal?
Do they really plan on drafting a CB and a Safety, in the first two rounds, because at this point, they almost have to.  Plus an edge rusher and a WR.
Since when do the Eagles give an entire season to a mediocre QB only to give him another one?  They must of had serious philosophy change, Lurie has always wanted the best passing offense in the NFL, and this upcoming season is looking a lot like last season, lots of running.

If they'd just released Cox there wouldn't have been money to use, Cox was released to avoid paying a specific roster bonus (or at least split it as dead cap over 2 years with a post june 1st designation), cutting him wouldn't save anything against the cap, Howie was smearing out the pile of cap crap he'd made of Cox's contract and make it easier to get out of down the road, I wouldn't be surprised if Lane gets a similar cut and resign before next year if he has another up and down season this year.

I was referring to the money paid out by having re-signed him.

Saw Allen on TV in a recent hurdle race which he won.  He does have speed and is well built.  If he can catch the ball and run routes (a WR in college), he would be a good addition to the receiving corp.  Likely an asset as a RS as well.

Howie dumpster diving again..

Typical Negadelphian response.  Care to revisit your opinion of the Howie dumpster after last night and the acquisition of AJ Brown?

I imagine they were expecting more from Hurts on the passing end of things. It took a few games at the start of last year to disabuse them of that notion. The Eagles, and most of the NFL didn't see any no-brainer picks in this year's QB crop and so.

Is Allen at the rookie mini camp?  If so, how did he do, showed any WR skills?
