Is Kenneth Walker III the Answer for the Eagles backfield? Yes.

by Joey Sheeran |  | Apr 5, 2022 |  | 2022 DraftTrending Now

Is Kenneth Walker III the Answer for the Eagles backfield? Yes. As far as we and anyone know at this very moment, Jalen Hurts is the Eagles’ starting Quarterback entering the 2022 season. A Quarterback that the team had to change their offense for halfway through last season. By the end, the Eagles had the #1 rushing offense in the league. So with no change under center, are we to assume a repeat in 2022?

Miles Sanders is on the last stint of his contract. Boston Scott signed a one-year deal. Jordan Howard has not been resigned. Kenny Gainwell, Howie drafted just a year ago. The Eagles certainly have a significant question about the future of their backfield.

In looking toward win-now and future success of the Eagles, they must address the Running Back position.

If there is one thing I’ve learned over the years covering the draft is, size doesn’t matter (enter joke here). Walker III plays well above his size. Measuring in at 5’11”, 210lbs. Similar to Jordan Howard. He shows the explosiveness between the tackles the Eagles need long-term.

Recently showing a 4.26sec 40-yard dash Pro Day, Howie should be inclined to show interest in Walker III. Not to mention, he has solid hands out of the backfield.

Kenneth is sure to be one of the top, if not the top, running backs entering the draft this year’s class. Suppose he were to slip to the second round where the Eagles draft at #51. That is the pick, a no-brainer.

Kenneth Walker III finished his Junior season with 1,700+ yards and 19 touchdowns all-purpose.

Behind a solid, some say the best offensive line in the NFL, and the sky is the limit for Kenneth Walker III.

With Mile Sanders being drafted in the second round back in 2019. Not the most sound running around as we have seen with injuries and fumble issues. Kenneth Gainwell was drafted just last season. It shows the Eagles are willing to prioritize the running back position.

With Hurts once again as your Day 1 Quarterback, I expect Howie to take major stock in the position once again.

I really hope that won't be the case.  I'd sooner deal with the frustration of losing games due to an inadequate passing attack than watch us rattle off wins against the sisters of the poor only to sneak into the playoffs and get our butts handed to us yet again by one of the NFC's top teams.  The focus this upcoming season should be doing everything we can to help Hurts improve his passing abilities, and that starts with a balanced attack (not the run heavy offense we transitioned to mid way through last season but also not the super pass heavy attack we started the season with).  Hurts needs to prove he can become a legitimate passing threat or be replaced (that way we know how to attack next year's draft) ... simple as that.

This guy can play.  Would solve our RB problem immediately.  A great move.

Eagles need a back who can run in between the tackles.  Jordan Howard is shot.

Walker looks to be a player, for sure.  But I don't like the idea of using a valuable pick (top 3 rounds) on a RB this year.  If we draft a RB this year at all, shouldn't be any higher than a mid-rounder.  Sanders/Gainwell/Scott are good enough to win with.

Agreed.  Plenty of solid RBs are drafted on day 3.
