Mostly peaceful

I’ll just do what I’ve done for years…avoid urban areas as much as possible. Outside of the better hospitals and sporting events, there’s little to no appeal to go into the city.

I love cities for short visits.

Yep exactly, just got back from a 4-day Chicago trip, kids had a blast. But I guess some people should avoid big cities if they hate world-class museums, amazing restaurants, famous landmarks and architecture, nice hotels where you can actually get a good night's sleep, etc.

outside of the world-class museums, you can all of the rest of that list outside of big cities as well.

That can be very hit or miss depending on where you go. We've done vacations in smaller cities or beach towns and often times finding a decent hotel is almost impossible. We have kids so the food issue isn't as big of a deal since we can suck it up and get chick fil a or pizza for dinner and be just fine, but I slept on a mattress at a hotel waterpark last month where I could feel the steel coils were about to pop out and impale me.

Went to Chicago a year and a half ago.  Went to LA last summer.  Live in Atlanta.  Must suck to be afraid of huge, important, fun parts of the country.

I hear terrible things about Jacksonville though.

How was the weather there for you in the summer? I'm planning for a Cali trip in July. Kids really got into the SMB movie a couple weeks ago so they flipped out when I told them mario land just opened in Universal Hollywood and showed them some youtube videos. Gonna stay 4 days in LA area to do Universal, and some other sites, then head to Anaheim for another 4 days to hit up the DL parks. Only thing is, I hate the heat, and having never been in Cali in the summer, I'm a bit nervous that we get hit with some massive heat wave and have to deal with 90 degree temps every day for our trip.

You're asking the wrong guy.  I'm used to 90+ and 100% humidity all summer, so even when I was out in Joshua Tree and it was over 100 it didn't seem too bad thanks to the dry heat.

All in all, we had a pretty busy trip.  2 days in Silver Lake.  2 days at Disneyland.  2 days out in the desert.  2 days at the beach.  It was July and it varied temperature-wise.  It was really nice in the basin.  Pretty hot down in Disney.  And obviously crazy hot out in Joshua Tree.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend going out into the desert.  It was a lot of fun and gets chilly at night but still, it's pretty brutal.  It didn't occur to us when we were planning it but on the way out there my wife and I realized taking 2 kids out into the Mojave desert in July was potentially child abuse.

Totally. We all came out of it looking like Fire Marshall Bill. It's amazing we even lived through it to tell the tale of our harrowing adventures.

Soyboy sh**libs be like "I vacationed in the nice parts of a city for several days and wasn't murdered by an angry mob, anyone who acknowledges soaring violent crime and the overall degradation of some of America's most famous cities is really just afraid of them."

And here's the new mayor who is somehow dumber than Lightfoot:

Reporter: So you're not condoning looting?

Mentally challenged lib: Well I mean, I'm not embracing it. Goes on to whine about capitalism like a braindead commie.

Seriously, liberals have negative IQs. They're just the dumbest humans to ever exist.

I can't imagine how damaged someone has to be to take personal offense to people saying they enjoyed their time in an American city.

P.S.  If we're talking about Jacksonville though, I agree.  That place is a sheethole.

Haha, windmill literally can't even form a coherent comeback besides repeating "derr, you really are afraid of cities unlike me."

We're all very impressed with your bravery, Van.

It's actually more due to cost of living (real estate in SF is a friggin' joke) and the ability/acceptance to work remotely.

Nope, I actually have no issue with that, acknowledge it all you want, but when people say there's no reason to go to big cities, all I can think about is how much shorter the waits will be for us to get seated for dinner.

Working from home post-pandemic in a tech heavy city surely plays no factor.
