R.I.P. Cynthia "Plaster Caster” Albritton, Artist Known for Sculptures of Musicians’ **** Dead at 74

Cynthia "Plaster Caster” Albritton, an artist best known for creating plaster casts of famous musicians’ ****, has died at 74. According to a press release, Albritton died in Chicago after "a long illness.”

Albritton was born in Chicago in 1947. She began her career in 1968, creating plaster genitals belonging to artists including Jimi Hendrix, The Buzzcocks’ Pete Shelley, MC5’s Wayne Kramer, and The Dead Kennedys’ Jello Biafra. Later on, Albritton included breasts in her plaster repertoire, making casts of bosoms belonging to The Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O, Peaches, Stereolab’s Laetitia Sadier, and The Mekons’ Sally Timms.

Albritton had a close friendship with Frank Zappa. Though the avant-garde musician was never the model of a sculpture himself, he found much amusement in Albritton’s work and helped her move to Los Angeles, where she found a plethora of willing participants.

Albritton had her first exhibition in New York City in 2000. The following year, she was profiled in Jessica Everleth’s documentary Plaster Caster,  and in 2005, she contributed to the 2005 BBC 3 documentary My P And I. Albritton has inspired and been referenced in a number of songs, including KISS’ "Plaster Caster,” Le Tigre’s "Nanny Nanny Boo Boo,” Jim Croce’s "Five Short Minutes,” and Momus’ "The P Song.”

Albritton unsuccessfully ran for mayor of Chicago in 2010 on the "Hard Party” ticket. "I am not a politician,” she said of her campaign. "I am an everyday citizen that is sick and tired of seeing the problems of our city escalate and I believe we ALL need to participate in helping to make our city the best it can be.”

I think he is on to something.  I'm going to take 50-some pictures of me professionally squatting in public places and make a different one my pic every week.

It’s 52 pictures.

I did the math, can confirm. 52 pictures would give you one picture each week.

Random question about FedEx ... I don't use them much, but am supposed to get a package today I need to sign for.

How reliable is the "on vehicle for delivery" status? Meaning if at this point it is not on the vehicle according to FedEx tracking, can I expect it to be coming tomorrow?

Or is it common to have a package loaded on the vehicle but not have the status appear correctly in the tracking?

In my experience UPS is pretty reliable on that, USPS tracking is useless, but I don't know about FedEx.

FedEx is usually pretty good with keeping the tracking updated. If it's on the vehicle and out for delivery, it will usually say something like "Expected by the end of the day."

That's what's weird - it says both. Well, it is still "in transit" (not on a vehicle) but insists it's being delivered today.

I spoke with someone at FedEx via discord who said the package is still in the air towards Newark. It may go from that to a delivery truck for an 8pm delivery but he seemed doubtful.

I don't need it today, I just wanted to be able to do some errands when I was homebound because I'm supposed to sign.

I would say you likely have some time, because it should update once it's loaded on the vehicle,  but it will still probably be a little while til it makes it to your door, but don't quote me on that -_-

College graduates are overestimating the salaries they’ll start out at by $50,000, report finds

Newly minted graduates are in for a shock.

Although the job market and starting salaries for the Class of 2022 look significantly better than last year, they may fall far short of graduates’ expectations.

Employers plan to hire about 31% more new degree holders from this year’s graduating class than they hired from the Class of 2021, according to a report from the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

The increased demand for workers is also driving starting salaries higher for some majors, NACE found.

The average starting salary for this year’s crop of graduates is projected to be more than $50,000, based on the most recent data.

Yet current college students expect to earn twice that — $103,880 — in their first job, according to a separate survey of college students pursuing a bachelor’s degree by Real Estate Witch in March.

Undergraduate students across all majors and institutions overestimated their starting salaries by 88%, Real Estate Witch found.

Ten years into their careers, students anticipate making more than $200,000, well over the average mid-career salary of $132,497.

In fact, salary projections for the Class of 2022 vary greatly depending on the area of concentration.

Employers projected starting salaries would increase 5.4% for math and sciences majors and decrease 14.8% for humanities majors, NACE found.

Overall, computer sciences majors are likely to be the highest paid just out of college, earning $75,900, on average, followed by engineering graduates.

"Students really want to understand the hiring demand and starting salaries within their major because they differ,” said Mary Gatta, NACE’s director of research and public policy.

That underscores the importance of career counseling and career services, she added. "It’s also an equity issue,” Gatta said. The idea is that pay transparency will bring about pay equity, which is essentially equal pay for work of equal or comparable value, regardless of worker gender, race or other demographic category.

"Informing students and workers can make a difference when we think about salary negotiations — it’s one way to break down systemic barriers.”

Beyond highlighting the overwhelming burden of student loan debt, the pandemic has also shed light on the financial benefits of earning a degree.

Seven in 10 seniors graduate with debt, owing about $30,000 per borrower.

Yet a majority of graduates with student loans said their college education improved their career opportunities and earning potential.

Studies show that college graduates will earn nearly $1 million more over the course of their careers.

Comedian Dave Chappelle attacked onstage at Netflix show in Los Angeles

Comedian Dave Chappelle was rushed and tackled by an individual while onstage at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Tuesday night during Netflix's first-ever live comedy festival.

Chappelle, 48, and the unidentified individual appeared to tussle on the stage floor during the Netflix Is A Joke Fest, before the individual ran away behind a screen on stage. Security personnel then surrounded and tackled the person in the rear corner of the stage.

Chappelle appeared to run toward the altercation, saying the individual was being "stomped." He asked repeatedly for security to remove the person from the stage. While the individual was being subdued by security, Chappelle joked to the audience that the person was "a trans man." The comedian has been criticized for his remarks about the transgender community, and there was backlash last year against his hourlong Netflix special "The Closer," during which he said that "gender is a fact."

Video circulating online and verified by ABC News showed the chaotic scene outside the Hollywood Bowl after the show, as police and medics loaded a person into an ambulance. The incident occurred toward the end of the sixth night of the 11-day Netflix Is A Joke Fest, which runs until May 8 and features more than 130 performers at various venues across Los Angeles.

Comedian Chris Rock, who performed earlier in the night, came on stage with Chappelle moments after the attack and joked: "Was that Will Smith?"

Last month at the 94th Academy Awards, actor Will Smith walked on stage and slapped Rock across the face after the comedian made a joke about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, during his presentation for Best Documentary Feature. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Board of Governors has since banned Smith from attending any academy event or program, including the Oscars, for 10 years.

ABC News' Alice Chambers contributed to this report.

This is the concern with what Smith did. Setting a precedent or giving rise to copycat incidents.

Oddly enough, a lot of comedians came out and made statements strongly condemning Smith after the Oscars, but I don't recall Dave being one of them.

Yup, I knew that this would just inspire more of the same.

I said to my gf when this happened, "You just saw cancel culture play out on live TV."

We need these guys to hold the line. I'm fully on team Chris and Dave.

You're overthinking it. Some snowflake saw the slap and thought storming the stage when he heard something he didn't like was a bright idea. In fact, I'd wager that he showed up with the intention of confronting Dave the moment he heard something he considered offensive.

How is that overthinking it when a lot of his jokes are about them?

Anyway it has a $30k bond and a record now. Hope it was worth it lol

I can't tell if we're disagreeing or not. I'm just saying that the slap probably normalized or made this kind of thing seem ok. Someone who may have thought twice now has lost that inhibition, and maybe they even relish the idea of going viral and getting their 15 mins. of fame from it.
