US Olympic and other teams will bring their own AC units to Paris, undercutting environmental plan

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — The U.S. Olympic team is one of a handful that will supply air conditioners for their athletes at the Paris Games in a move that undercuts organizers’ plans to cut carbon emissions.

U.S. Olympic and Paralympic CEO Sarah Hirshland said Friday that while the U.S. team appreciates efforts aimed at sustainability, the federation would be supplying AC units for what is typically the largest contingent of athletes at the Summer Games.

"As you can imagine, this is a period of time in which consistency and predictability is critical for Team USA’s performance,” Hirshland said. "In our conversations with athletes, this was a very high priority and something that the athletes felt was a critical component in their performance capability.”

Historic SS United States is ordered out of its berth in Philadelphia | What this means for the ship

The decision culminated a years-old rent dispute between the conservancy that oversees the SS United States and its landlord.

They may have to scrap her, which is a shame. She still holds the speed record for her crossing.

Sounds like they let Assange go.

Can anyone explain what the law suit is about to me?

Yah know I usually don't like political stickers/billboards etc, but this one made me chuckle (Smiley is the mayor of Providence)

Just popped a '97 Anglianico, a Racidi Taurasi Riserva.  Opened 30mins ago and will have it as we hit the 2nd half of the England game.

update: I had a little taste back when I popped it and now after about 1:30.  Very nice with clear hints of maturity and now rounding out quite nicely.  I expect it will open up a good chunk more over the next 1:30 but it is already very very drinkable.

Thanks for that update, we were all on the edges of our seats wondering about those hints of maturity.

I'm back at my local bar drinking a Fiddlehead IPA after a week in Pigeon Forge Tennessee. It has tones of probably hops and generally is a good way to get a buzz efficiently.

Pigeon Forge is a great place to visit with kids but way way way busier than the last time we went a decade or more ago.

If you're still considering whether or not it's a cult, I did get to see a 11-year-old boy wearing a Trump 2024 hat in Wonder Works (recommend it if you go with little ish ones; ymmv with teens) .

There ends my update. I hope it was enjoyable. Back to the Phillies.

We were there last week. First time for us. Stayed in a cabin on the other side of Gatlinburg and spent more time there than pigeon forge. Personally, I preferred Gatlinburg over Pigeon Forge. We want to go back down and do more hiking in the mountains.

What a coincidence!  I popped the bag out of a box of Kirkland brand can last night!

I like Gatlinburg. I ran the Gatlinburg trail a few times while I was there, on one run I saw a bear and turned back lol

Only downside to Gatlinburg was parking. Did an escape room there with the family

Yeah the parking sucked but I preferred the atmosphere there more than Pigeon Forge. We had a bear visit the cabin daily. One night my SIL and BIL left their car door unlocked and we woke up to find the bear in the passenger seat of their car. By the end of the week there were prints by the door handles on all 3 of our cars.
