If he can't be a left tackle, they really need to put him at defensive tackle......he'd be a monster in there.

At DT he could use his athletic ability to react.  He wouldn't have to be perfect like he will have to at OL.  I would like to see him tried at OG first.  We'll cut him and the Steelers will claim him and he'll make the pro bowl at either OG or DT there.

Dont players punt in australian football? Wonder if hes any good at that? Could save a roster spot.

The plan for Mailata was always to not play him the first two years, so I am not sure why things aren't looking good to you. He was the 12th-highest tackle in pff's preseason rankings (out of 42 eligible) and the number 1 run blocker. As far as his injury, he said he was fine after a few weeks of rest and that the only reason he was on IR was because they needed the roster spot due to injuries at other positions.

Plus, he's really the only backup tackle with any pro experience the team has right now. And even if they sign Peters, he is the only experienced backup RT.

To me things are going exactly as planned. This year he will almost certainly be the swing tackle, and if Dillard struggles he may be starting after a few weeks.

He has zero experience at OT except for blocking 3rd string DEs that aren't NFL quality.  He was placed on IR because he can't play yet at this level.  He will never be able to play out on an island at OT against NBA like small forward DEs.  Interesting he had a high run blocking grade.  That's what OGs do.  He should be playing there.  Sem is our next best tackle and the 4th rounder will be after him on the depth chart at OT.

Pryor was terrible at RT. I didn't count Seumalo since he's a starter. Plus, he only played at right tackle after four other guys were hurt or suspended, so it's not like he was the first option when it happened. And they had to give him help the whole game, and he still gave up four pressures (but no sacks.)

So yes, the Eagles have players they can put in at RT besides Mailata. But as far as people who have been able to play the position at a level approaching competency in a professional setting, the list begins and ends with him.

The 4th rounder will be at RT before Mailata.

He played against Josh Allen last year who made the pro bowl.

I'll say this...

Jordan Mailata isn't being tried at RB because he's not a RB.

Average team throws maybe 25-30 times a game.  Based on 25 pass attempts, if he allowed a sack a game he'd have a 96 percent success rate pass blocking.  That would get him a seat on the bench.  You always hear Olmen say their names are only spoken when they mess up and that's true.  They have to have an extremely high success rate pass blocking to stay on the field.  It's no reason this is the moist important unit on a football team.  Rugby has never played before.  Maybe a miracle happens and he can suddenly dance out on the edge and block the best athletes this side of the NBA.  From what I've seen I don't see him having the necessary 98+ percent success rate on passing downs.  If they moved him inside he could be dominant.  The argument is he is too tall to play OG.  Pryor is listed as only 1 inches shorter and he is the top reserve at this point at OG.  The kid from Auburn in the 4th round started at RT in college.  They are moving him inside and i think Stoutland sees him as Kelce's replacement.  But they wouldn't have a problem with him filling in at RT should Johnson go down.  He needs to add a lot of strength but the kid is brilliantly smart and technically sound.  Great temperment.  Mailata will have to flash from day 1 to make this roster.  They aren't cutting either Olineman drafted. Pryor has some versatility and potential.  So barring injuries he looks like the odd man out.

Big difference between Rugby where they don't tackle the legs  and the NFL

Now if he could catch i'd love to see him on a seam route against a safety. Actually i'd love to see the look on the safetys face

I just hope he can be a serviceable backup for now

I don't think he's making this roster. And at this point I'm not sure he should. If Driscoll is decent and can be versatile then he makes the roster. If Wanogho clears medically then he should too.

Unfortunately, they don't exist in the NFL anymore.

Fake news.

If William The Refrigerator Perry, et al. can get some goal line plays. Mailata could too. But, at this point it's moot. He's not getting any plays as a skill position player. And he needs to concetrate and focus on making this team right now. He is no lock for all the positive athleticism he has, it hasn't elevated him any as a Tackle.

This is probably his make or break season. At some point he needs to prove he belongs or the Eagles need to move on. They have stashed him for two years now. It’s time for him to step up to at least be a backup.

It's a bit of a myth that you need a big back for short yardage.

Go and break down the success and failure of critical 1 yard plays.  The first thing you'll notice is that nearly every success or failure usually comes from an OL/DL winning or losing their assignment.  If your OL gets the push, the RB has the hole to pick up the yard.

When you isolate the performance of the RBs...some of the things that seal the deal are the explosive goal line jumps above the line.  The other key is quickness.  The OL opens a hole, you've got to hit it before a LB closes it.

Putting a big, slow OL in the backfield might enable you to drive a tackler back better than a real RB, but it also drastically increases the chances of getting hit in the backfield.

I'm not even sure it's make or break anymore. I mean sure if he balls out in whatever TC there is then perhaps he makes it. But at this point I think we've added potentially better options.

I grew up watching this guy. I could see them putting a package together for Mailata eventually. However I think the main reason we haven't seen anything yet is because he wasn't even on the active roster most weeks last year. They aren't going to give up a roster spot for a gimmick player.

What about Lane Johnson at QB?! He played it in high school. We could run a 3 QB offense!

Didn’t they kind of do that by drafting Hurts?😂 Mialata and the fridge really aren’t the same. The Fridge was 6’2” and Mialata is 6’8” and that makes a huge difference. Also Perry was a starting DT, and Mialata can’t even get on the active roster. If Mialata can’t play tackle then he can’t play for the Eagles. I’m sure that if he had the ability to do other things the Eagles would use him. I doubt team that ran the Philly Special would keep him on the sidelines if they thought he had those types of skills.

I remember the Eagles signing Perry - I believe it was after Jerome was killed in that car accident.

Yeah, but he was pretty much a washed up player by then.

IIRC, he didn't have a bad year and held his own on the run

Yeah, Perry actually was decent for us.
