Mr. Hunt took a photo of himself after nabbing a few cheesesteaks near U of P and made a meme out of it.  (Hunt's the guy on the right if anyone didn't know)

Right.  So, we don't know.

Knowing how the left handles messaging, my guess would be that it's the most boring, ineffectual attempt at fighting misinformation that has ever existed, like issuing press releases about Russian or far right disinformation campaigns.  Instead of fighting misinformation with more misinformation they'll likely try to fight misinformation by calling out the misinformation.  It's a strategic mistake and way less effective than the President getting up on stage to do a tight 5 on the press being the Enemy of the People.

Well, you've certainly convinced me that the government deciding what information is true or false and placing it under the authority of the Department of Homeland Security definitely shouldn't cause any concerns.

I'm not trying to convince you of anything.  I'm just telling you the most likely route considering who it is.  More than anything, I'm curious to see what they're actually doing and, obviously, if there's any way that I can help them in their just fight against misinformation.

Uh huh.  Just remember, two can play at that game.  You'd be crying like a baby if this happened under the Trump administration.

People like you, or for that matter, anyone else, are in no position to tell us what is and what is not disinformation.  That's what freedom of speech is all about - people decide for themselves.  The government, especially the federal government, is not the information police.

  Unless someone speaks out against a certain bill in Florida.

Or journalists say mean things about Trump:

Quote

The Justice Department has stepped up investigations and prosecutions of journalists’ sources of classified government information, while Trump and his attorneys general have refused to rule out prosecuting reporters themselves. The Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency has questioned journalists at border posts, searched their electronic devices, and monitored their movements in a secret database.

Trump himself has called for boycotts of news organizations and changes in libel law to punish the press. His re-election campaign sued The New York Times, The Washington Post, and CNN for libel for opinions expressed by their columnists and contributors. He tried unsuccessfully to take away White House press credentials from journalists and news organizations whose questions and stories he did not like. He encouraged federal government interference in the businesses of the owners of CNN, the traditional broadcast networks, and The Washington Post.

How does providing contrary evidence for public consumption amount to "controlling infomation?"

if the right wants to believe that the world is being run by soros and his lizard people underlings, what business is that of the u.s. govt?

That line was dumb. Just was grabbing a video of her musical number.

A Democratic Congresswoman warns that Tweets are hate crimes. Nah, nothing to worry about.

What are the guidelines, rules, authority and governance of the board? What are the limitations?

No one knows. Vague, open for interpretation. So there is naturally going to be concern.

You guys are defending it, when you don't know what it is either.

Apparently you didn't read my earlier post where I said I'm not really sure how this board operates. I would expect more information to be forthcoming. You're asking the right questions, though. My sense is that the board has no powers of governance or real authority, because that would require Congressional approval. I think they'll be little more than a glorified PR wing that will just provide information that disproves the counterfactual and misleading claims that are influencing the public conversation. For example, if someone's downplaying the events of January 6, simply display the videos, testimony, and other kinds of documentary evidence that puts things in perspective. A democratic populace has the right and the need for accurate information to make good decisions about their government.

She's not saying "Tweets are hate crimes." She's saying that irresponsible, apocryphal Tweets influence the commission of hate crimes.

Someone asked "what powers" were gained by the government - as if this isn't a slippery slope and is only to be judged by where it stands right now and not where this could be headed.  Typical short sighted, unintelligent response

Like shooting a bunch of people in a subway?
