Yes I understand that. And I still think it hurts the Dems in 2022. Specifically moderate Dems.

FWIW, the "moderate Dems" in here have zero concerns about it.

Great way to mischaracterize what I said.  Now, instead of distorting the truth as you leftists like to do, let's see what I really alluded to:

1.  There is much violent crime going on in Philly that the authorities are not focused on preventing.

2.  There is not any violent crime of any note taking place against school boards - but that the feds are focused on that anyway.

The feds often step into local situations when the local authorities either don't have the resources or aren't bothering to investigate it. In this instance, they weren't actually focused on it, their assistance was requested.

It doesn't seem like they even really did anything here. The board sent a letter asking for help. Garland responded accordingly, directing the FBI to work with state and local authorities to set up meetings for discussing the situation. This is all pretty much SOP for performing due diligence when a group requests assistance from federal autorities. Then the board essentially rescinded the letter, so I'm not even sure it went anywhere.

I never said they did. What doesn’t make sense is why you’d pretend that i said something I didn’t.  The government claim of disinformation just gives them an excuse.

Didn't you once agree with Trump when he called the press the enemy of the people?

So yeah, you can kindly STFU with all your righteous indignation over this. Nobody takes you seriously anymore because you're a low-info partisan hack with an undiagnosed mental illness.

The Biden administration is too late to the game. They're playing by old rules.

Rand Paul remains awesome.

The White House helped the board write the letter that spurred the DOJ into action. I’m sure the WH and DOJ had no communications before the DOJ announcement that they were going to act on the letter though.

And what's the excuse for your mental illness?  You're about as angry and demented as anybody on these boards.

Hey, champ... How's the counting coming along? You figure out how to count to 20 yet without taking off your shoes and socks?

No.

The problem is they set up minitrue.

The messaging isn’t the problem. The problem is what they did. The fact that what they did is in the most infamous dystopian literature of all time should tell you something.

If you're not angry, you haven't been paying attention.

Like what the border states are forced to do when the federal government doesn't bother to do it's job?

"The irony is that this board is really kind of boring,” said a DHS official who was not authorized to address the topic on the record. "It was designed to protect against the very thing that we’re being accused of doing — that is, it was designed to protect the free speech, privacy, civil rights and civil liberties of all Americans.”

It hasn’t even convened its first meeting, but already the Disinformation Governance Board — a small group created to work on a complicated problem — has become a big headache.

The conservative machine got wind of this group and whipped everyone up into a frenzy. I don't believe the conservative media. I am convinced if it's something they hate, then it has to be good for America.

q loving nutbag trumpbots love russian propaganda and being fed lies. no governance board is going to change that.

dems need to be better at messaging.

If Minitrue says it’s boring and good for you, it must be true! After all, they’re the ministry of truth!

I feel the same way about main stream media. If it's something they hate then it's good for America.

It isn’t good. Just abandon the concept and move on.

This is 100% true.  The right wing media has a deep-seeded hatred for America and democracy in general.

That said, it's still a bad strategy (and not just because it looks bad).  It's a bad strategy because it'll be completely ineffective.  The left doesn't need to fight misinformation with truth, they need to fight misinformation with more effective and coordinated messaging.  They need the liberal media to act like the right wing media and actually coordinate with them to push the right message.

Fox was on the phone with Trump every day coordinating the message that he wanted out there.  The left should take their cues from the right stop with the facade of journalistic integrity.  No one gives a F.  The people that hate them, hate them no matter what, and the people they're reaching are better served with a message that actually helps them Dems stay in power instead of one that let's a cable news anchor pretend like he's Edward R. Murrow.

I don't even know what the Disinformation Governance Board at DHS is set out to do... If the right-wingnuts hate it, they're going to combat American fascist propaganda, then I am all for it.

They are going to make determination on whether something is true or disinformation. It is a terrible concept to put a govt agency in a position of power based on determining truth.

Instead put an agency in play to combat outside interference in US elections. Or one to combat domestic terrorism. Don’t start trying to be the arbiter of truth. That begins bad and ends very very badly.

Its function is to protect national security by disseminating guidance to DHS agencies on combating foreign misinformation and disinformation. Specific problem areas mentioned include false information propagated by human smugglers encouraging migrants to surge to the Mexico–United States border, as well as Russian-state disinformation on election interference and the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.

so, basically nothing "the right" is saying it's going to do.
